Default Service Engine Soon

Hi all,

my wife has just complained of the service engine soon light being on all the time. The manual says that It can be as simple as a loose fuel cap or an emissions problem.
It came on the same time as the SLIP light and that light went out immediately but now the SES light has remained on.
Is this something that I should worry about or let it turns itself off after a few trips as the manual also suggests. Is there anything that I should look at before taking the car into the robbing bastard dealers who will most likely switch it off and charge us.
As usual any input will be gratefully received.

regards,
Doug.

Take it to an autozone or another car place and have them scan for codes. They'll also rese the light for you. It's free...

Hi Pengu,

I was on my way to the local Autozone when my neighbor told me that he had the small handheld computer that reads and resets the codes.
I plugged it in, and hit the "read" button and to my surprise there were no codes that were causing any problems so I reset the darned thing and it has been fine since then.
Thanks again for your helpful suggestion.

regards,
Doug.
