I was told by Nissan that I have a leak in my oil pan but it's not very serious at the present time but it has to be monitored. They also told me that labor to fix it would be $1,400.00. That sounds insane. Any comments?

Wtf 1400? The thing has like 8 bolts to remove other than removing the oil and placing the new gasket

Wow, that's too much money to change out a gasket. If I'm not mistaken, the fel-pro oil gasket is only $10. Just research how to change out the gasket, it's not too difficult. Also, don't over tighten the gasket lol

If they quoted $1400, it's the upper pan that's leaking, not the lower one. Removal of the upper pan is 11 hours. You have to sling the engine and remove the front subframe. If any of you "stealerships suck" keyboard mechanics think that's an easy job, have fun. Oh, and it's a silicone seal, not a gasket, so make sure both parts are 100% free of any old silicone and use alcohol to clean any oil residue. If not, you'll be doing it again.


P.S.: If I sound like an ***, it's only cause I'm tired of people saying, "I'd do it for half that" every time someone posts up about a dealer service visit. Maybe if you offered a 12/12k warranty on all of your work and had to pay rent for a real shop (not your garage) and insurance, you wouldn't "do it for half that".

Fuhh, the upper pan is a pain... Good luck if it is! If anything, you can find the source by cleaning out the old oil with brake cleaner, then recheck in a day or two... Hopefully it isn't that!
