Default Repairing a broken 06+ headlight

I purchased some 06+ head lights but two of the tabs are broken on one and they have a hole exposed.

What do you guys recommend I do to seal these up? The holes are about the size of half-dollars.

That's a really good question. If the holes were smaller, I'd say rtv silicone. In your case I'd get some 10 mil clear plastic/polyethylene and a can of 3M spray glue. Cut to size, spray, and let it tack up real good.

Let us know how the repair goes.

Thanks for the tip! Is that regular plastic? And do you recommend it being done from the inside?

I'll get some pics up tonight.

If the holes are that big I'd probably do fiberglass patches. The broken tabs are more of a problem, I'd think.

Yours is a better idea for structural integrity. I was thinking the damage extended into lens area. Cosmetic/weather proof.

I took apart the lights to clean all the dust from inside, and it was full!

One of the lights seems to have been clear coated in the past. Its peeling by the turn signal bulb and looks gaudy. 500 grit sand paper wouldnt remove it and im scared to use anything lower as it might scratch the lens too deep.

Any tips on removing it? Aircraft spray might work but will it damage the lens?

It *might* be the laquer/clear coat that someone made another thread about because under the clear I peeled off, it seems to be sanded with 1000 grit. And thats what the video calls for.

I had a similar problem recently with the clearcoat on the silver steering wheel trim. Regular acetone and a rag with some patience worked well on that. Maybe try a test spot.
