The best price ive seen is 11.99 at autozone. Anyone know any online shops or retail stores that sells it cheaper?

 

I have been lucky enough to find these at Autozone, no one else even carries it.

There are 2 versions of OEM nissan oil filter. the "Long" and the "Short." Both firts VQ35DE. The Long version is suppose to be a damn good filter, but recently nissan moved into the Shorter version that is reported to be of cheaper construction(card-board paper endcaps). The 2 dealers i have been to for oil change both use the short one. Cost saving? not sure, but if you are like me and change the oil on average of every 4-5K miles, i doubt there is a difference.

Both of those M1 filters are made by Champion Labs - not the spark plug manufacturer. They also manufacture the K&N oil filters. If you can't find the M1, the K&N is identical besides the square nut on the casing. Between the 110 and the 105, the case housing is longer and nothing else. Any of the three are excellent filters and you won't go wrong as long as money is no matter. But, the Nissan oil filters work well and are plenty sufficient. The oil filter for the VQ is the same as the SR20 and several people use them in the SE-R cup racing series.

 

Regarding the OEM filters.... A while back, I decided to see for myself what was inside them. Both are easily opened with a can opener. Indeed, the end caps are cardboard, and the construction is pretty poor... I would post pics if I could figure out how to use the damn attach tool.. for some reason, they're not attaching :-(
The larger Nissan filter has sheet-metal end caps and slightly better (more even) internal construction. The paper element appears to be of the same type, but there's more media in the longer filter.
I certainly wouldn't use an OEM filter, especially for the price. If you're satisfied using a paper filter, there must be dozens of other brands that are at least as good for less $.

I've never looked at the M1-105, so I have no idea if it fits/works for the Z. The M1-108 is essentially the same size as the pathetically small OEM filter; the M1-110 is the same diameter, but longer. It's basically the same size as the larger OEM filter. I use the M1-110.

I heard the 105 has a better bypass, but resolute doesnt quite agree. But the 105's housing is definately longer. So basically either one is good. Just dont get the 108.

 

I just changed oil/filter yesterday, and used the M1-108, because that's what the autozone computer told me to use. What's wrong with the -108?

 

Autozone used to occasionally have a special of 5 qts Mobil 1 with one of the Mobil 1 filters all for $25. I haven't seen that in a couple of years, though

Used to always stock up for my GTP when I saw that.

 

Was it the synthetic oil? If it wasnt, you can get it for that price now.

M1108s arent bad, but the 105 and 110 are better (they will all fit).

Dont depends on Autozone's intelligence. They gave me the wrong parts so many times.

 

You aren't reading. Oil PLUS the Mobil 1 filter. The filters are $10+ by themselves.

 

i know you said oil plus the filter, what im asking is the oil synthetic or conventional. sorry for the confusion.

 

the "1" in Mobil 1 means that the oil is synthetic. Mobil's conventional oil is simply sold under the name Mobil.

There's nothing *wrong* with the -108, except that it is pathetically small for a 3.5L engine... just my opinon, though.
