Default Rear Hatch latch is overly eager and keeps popping itself over and over

This just started yesterday.

My hatchback keeps unlatching itself. I don't think it's being caused by the keyfob, because it is happening even when the car is running, which means the key is in the ignition, and according to the logic on the keyfob, the keyfob cannot activate the hatch latch when the car is running with the key in the ignition.

needless to say, it is driving me nuts, as I will drive down the road, and the hatch will unlatch and pop itself.

I am wondering if maybe the press button switch directly above the license plate might be going bad and causing all of the latching/unlatching?

Has anyone ever had this issue before? Sometimes when the hatch really gets overly enthusiastic, it will unlatch itself over and over and over for 30 seconds straight. i'm worried it might burn out the motor.

If you have encountered this problem before, let me know what you replaced, and i'll order those parts, do the replacement, and let you know if it also fixed the issue for me.

thanks in advance

Test the exterior switch/actuator for continuity in both off and on positions. Sounds like it's activating the release when it shouldn't. It's about $200 new. When my gas flap actuator went out, a buddy on here was parting out and saved me a ton.

Here's the diagram, #12 I believe.

It's definitely the actuator. You need to install a new assembly.
