Unhappy Intermittent overheat problems

I have just bought a 2003 touring 350 Z's and it had been sitting around six months in a covered garage, I drove home 60 miles after purchasing the car on the interstate and had no problems with it and right when I got into town it started overheating. The next day it drove fine without overheating at all and now I just try driving it today and now it is overheating again ...., to me it sounds like the thermostat is sticking does this sound about right? Or is there some other things I should check too. I'm not too knowledgeable with cars so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome- before jumping to any conclusions, do the basics first. Check the radiator cap and make sure there's no air in the system (do a search). Consider buying a Lisle funnel to make burping the system easier.

When my car was doing this it turned out to be thermostat.. you may as well change coolant and check cap, and bleed the system + do all the other basic maintenance routines if you just got the car.. Just my opinion

check the radiator fans too
