Blown headgasket
2006 6MT revup, 130k miles
A few weeks ago I started blowing stinky blue smoke and and consuming oil. I figured I was living on borrowed time with my revup at this mileage lol. Anyway. I found an oily plug and changed the valve cover and gasket to stop that leak. I reasoned that maybe at vacuum the oil could have been drawn into the combustion chamber and burned this way. Still blowing blue smoke, and this time that I drove it, the coolant temp gauge almost maxed out and I parked it. Then, I changed my oil. Nice and milky, and my magnetic oil drain plug had some nasty sludge all over it, which has never happened before. So, a blown head gasket. This makes sense, as I have also experienced a noticeable power loss around the same time this was all going on (low compression?). Anyway, I am a little confused as to what to do because I never got to drive it enough to see if the plug seal was the source of my oil consumption. Head gasket failures do not result in oil consumption, correct? I ask because I don't want to waste my time replacing the head gaskets / repairing the heads just for me to realize I need an engine rebuild. And as for the cause for the gasket failure, I recently installed tomei headers which requires draining your coolant. I refilled and bled the coolant (presumably) with no problems, but I'm guessing I cooked the heads at some point during the bleeding process.
And yes, I realize the easy answer to all this is to swap in a used engine.. but I just can not find any. And a used revup engine is questionable at best.. Thanks for your input.
