If you have to replace it, I would not go to the dealer. I would think by now most of the auto glass shops should carry the Z's windshield. What is wrong with yours?

Your dealer is trying to rip you off.

I had a rock strike last summer that required a windshield replacement and the prices varied from a high of $480 to the $285 I ended up paying. Call around (try a SafeLite franchise near you), and if you have a glass rider on your auto insurance I'd recommend *NOT* having the insurance company coordinate the replacement for you. You might find a surprising similarity in the cost of such a replacement, and the deductable on your policy

Try googling 'nissan 350z windshield glass cost'. I tried a few sites using my own ZIP and the most expensive I found was about $400 (and many sites offer an online discount/rebate).

$500 is wayyy too much to pay for this.

doesn't your insurance cover the replacement minus the deductible? i just had mine replaced on sat morning b/c it cracked and i only had to pay $100 out of my pocket b/c the ins covered the rest. i didn't bother to ask what the total was though...

i went straight to the performance nissan and ordered my windshield. i wanted factory glass because the glass places i called did not have the factory "style". the factory style having that black piece on top(i'm thinking its a defroster of some sort). i claimed my minor rock chips on my front bumper, so that it would cover my deductible costs. so i pretty much got factory glass for free.

The black part on the factory glass is not a defroster but rather is meant to block sun in between the two sunshade things. Since you have an 04 though and I believe those have the plastic pieces in the sunshades that come out, you wouldnt really need that unless you happened to like the look.

ohhh thanks silverstoneTT. i was wondering that was. that black part doesnt really do a good job blocking sun. =/ jason from performance nissan gave me a quote of $350 for non-factory glass, but i figured i rather pay $150 more for factory glass.

thanks again for clearing that up for me.
