Nissan finally replaced my engine
Well, what a headache that was. I had an oil consumption problem with my 350Z Track just like HFM did. It only had 8,000mi on it but would lose 3 quarts of oil after 1000 miles. A couple of trips to Torrance Nissan and they couldn't figure out what it was. They called NNA engineers and the decision was to pull my motor and install a new one.
I argued that I wanted a new car or buy back, went throught the BBB and Adam Goodman, and no dice. However, they did agree to monetary compensation for an amount that I can't disclose.
So, I take my car it on a Wednesday (new engine was already at the dealer), and they were done by Friday (2 days later). What really pissed me off is that instead of giving me a loner car like another Z or Maxima, they send me over to Enterprise to get a freakin Neon or Escort for a rental car. WTF! My experience with Lexus, Porsche, and BMW was much different as they provide you with at least a comparable car of their own, not a piece of sh#t $20 a day rental car. Whatever, that's Nissan for you. They treat you like you own Sentra and not a 350Z.
I pick up the car on Saturday and as I drive away, I find that I can barely get the stick out of first without really yanking at it. I can barely get it into second, and when I get on the freeway, I can't get it into 5th! What in god's name is going on! So I take the car back there, get another piece of crap rental car, and a few days later they figured out that they didn't line up the reverse plate (???) in the tranny. When I picked up the car this time, it felt fine. Tranny is smooth once again, engine seems okay.
I really love the car but I can't stand Nissan as a company.
Well, at least I got some $$ out of it, which went right back into buying a Kinetix plenum, cats, pulleys, and pop charger.
Thanks to HFM for the helpful info. Brett is a nice guy Torrance Nissan. He says the same about you.

Glad to hear you've got that resolved. Nice deal on the cash settlement too. I probably should have pushed for the same if I wanted to deal with the hassle. The way I look at it, these guys took care of the problem and I'm pleased. Nissan's lucky they have some good guys at some of these dealerships.
Brett is totally cool. Anyways, doc, maybe I'll see you around at one of the meets, eh. Take it easy.

We got tranny, suspension, paint, engine, interior, and a list of other problems with the Z ..
Was there some fine print in the Warranty that said the car is not meant to be driven?
Glad to hear your issue was covered under warranty doc

It's not Nissan, it's your cheap A$$ dealership, Nissan does not police the dealerships. Nissan leaves to each independent dealer to the method they use for public relations. And for your engine swap, let me ask this. "If you bought a new house and the A/C did'nt work to it's max, but was under warranty, would you demand a new house?" It's all relative, every company in the world is in business to make money, not give away their, in this case a new 350Z.

I feel bad enough with a 2nd tranny in the car. I may trade it in for an '05 if they do some good changes by then.

Has anyone else had engine problems? Maybe not being replaced, but has anyone had to put a wrench to it for warranty work?
My engine is not the only one that has been replaced. There have been several others. HFM and I are the only two that have had engines replaced in Southern California that I know of.
Our engine problems were a little different than what I would call an engine failure like the E46 M3's experienced. Those engines simply blew and failed. In our case, it was an oil consumption problem. The engine actually ran fine, didn't smoke, didn't visibly leak oil from underneath, but it was going somewhere, and quick. Nissan is apparently very concerned about this because when the dealer called them to ask for advice, they immediately wanted the dealer to pull my engine and send it to them, that was not the decision of the dealer. I was pretty suprised because you usually have to do some major bitching to get a new engine. The Nissan engineers told my dealer to not even make an attempt at taking the engine apart to figure out what was wrong with it.
It is a rare problem, but one that Nissan is aware of and obviously concerned.

I too just had the oil consumption test done and was 3 quarts low--nissan has agreed to replace my engine. I have not ok'd this due to the fact that it devalues my car and they will not do a warrenty starting from zero on a new engine.
After contacting bbb, nissan ca, I got Adam's # and left a message. My exhaust system is dirty, I do want them to do something about this as well. I now have the feathering alignment problem as well. What a pain.
Help if you can...

Can you help me out with this. I was just approved for a new engine due to oil consumption. I have not ok'd this as yes and am making a big deal and of course it is. I feel this devalues my car and has other effects on the exhaust system.
I am going to call adam goodman next. the nissan ca line gave me his number.
HELP me if you can
