Yes and no. Its very easy to get to. But its behind a plastic cover thats a pain to remove. There are like 10-14 screws holding this cover on.

All you need is some rhino ramps.

Why are so many people changing oil @ 3,000 miles? Assuming you are not in stop and go traffic all the time and towing, 3K miles oil change interval is overkill(even if you are using regular Dino oil vs. Synthetics) Maybe it is brainwashing by JeffyLube

I agree. My '89 Supra manufacturer's recommendations were to change the oil every 10,000 miles under regular use and every 5000 miles for slow speed, towing, heavy stop and go traffic.

I changed the oil on that thing every 5000 miles and at 190,000 miles, the car only burnt 1/2 quart every 5000 miles. The engine still ran smooth and powerful. Not bad.

3k miles here. I use my car for work and am stuck in traffic most of the day. Besides, $1.21 per quart is cheap insurance to keep the motor clean.

I change every 3k. Been using mobil 1 synethetic since I had 4000 miles on the car (I use m108 mobil 1 filter too). Car now has 8500 miles, recently did another change. The car is mostly city driven, however on the weekends I put a lot of highway miles on it. I may start changing at 5k since I do use synthetic. Dont wont the dealer giving me any $hit about warranty though.

Been getting a decent price on mobil 1 around here (walmart). $19.62 for 5qt's

I changed on schedule between 3 to 5k depending on how oil was doing. I was using dino and changed it whenever it got darker and oil pressure at idle was close to 45 (aka oil started tickening).

Now I changed to Mobil 1 5/30 and changed filter at 2800 miles because I am not sure how filter by-pass works, see my post requesting info on by-pass and oil pressure. Oil is a translucent honey color and oil pressure (after warmup) stays between 30 and 90 from idle to 4500.

There is no such thing as overkill when it comes to changing the life blood of your engine.

I've used Mobil 1 and OEM oil filters exclusivley for over 15 years without an oil related problem.

My change interval has always been 5000 miles.

Mobil1 because it's synthetic and I used to live in New York State [minus 20 degrees and all that];
OEM filters so the engine work warranty claim won't be denied if there's ever a need for it.

Consumer Reports did a lengthy article on oil and filters about three years ago. As I recall, their conclusion was that unless you're driving a taxicab in Manhattan, 3000 is too often.

I too am starting my 5000 mile interval now that I have switched over to Mobil 1. I use the longer OEM filter since you folks seem to say it's built better.

We'll see how it goes. heh. If engines blows up I guess I'll revert back to 3,000 miles.

I am a auto tech, costs 11.00 to change oil every 2000 or so. I have never seen a problem with a car that had too many oil changes. A high reving motor is worth taking care of,plus I have use of a hoist any time i want and have 5 min time extra

Living in CA, i prefer Mobil 1 0W-40, excellent oil specified for MB-AMG and Austin Martin. Same price as Mobil 1 5W-30.

hey all. planning to change my oil today. are these the steps i follow?

1. drive car
2. let sit for atleast 10 minutes
3. take out engine cover
4. remove oil filter, drain it
5. remove oil from oil pain
6. lubricate oil filter, put oil in the filter, put it back on
7. put the oil pan bolt back on.
8. start adding oil through the engine bay.

somebody correct me if i am wrong. are there any tricks, or any washers or gaskets or anything that i have to reuse?

flip-flop steps 4 and 5. After you park and remove the pan you do not need to wait 10 mins.

You will need a new drain plug washer. They are about a $1.10 from nissan dealer, or you can get some online for around $.50

good luck
