New Tranny going in on Monday
that's right. new transmission for me!!!
i took it in because i was getting a "hiccup" between gears. basically anytime i had to shift, it almost felt like i was shifting twice. for example....start in 1st, clutch pedal in, move shifter to neutral, shifter "snags", shift on into second. this happens on any shift, between any gears.
it wasn't a huge deal, but i was worried with all the replacements going on. the service people agreed with me that something was going on. the tech felt it might be a bad baulk ring (which i thought only had to do with the 1-2 shift), and that it was probably a sign of more bad things to come.
service rep made quick call to NNA...and to her surprise...the immediate response was to put a new tranny in.
what's funny is that i really thought i was just being paranoid after reading all these posts from you guys. i almost felt like i had invented the problem in my own mind.
anyway...i hope everything goes well with it. these major operation type things can often be followed by some annoying problems.
i'll keep you guys updated.
p.s....for those of you near raleigh/cary/apex, nc...i have been getting my service done at SS Nissan of Apex, despite things i have heard about them...they have done fine by me up to this point.

wow.
i just put in a request for a new tranny for the 3rd gear grind and they want to open up the tranny and see what the problem is ... when tons of other people were oked for new tranny's on the spot.

if you look in the service manual...it says any internal problem with the tranny results in a total replacement of the tranny. as far as i know, they aren't supposed to do any internal repairs...and i doubt they have parts to do so.
oh...for what it is worth...my Z was built 11/02 and bought in 01/03.

on page 2 ("precautions") of the Manual Transmission section it says:
"If any malfunctions occur in the FS6R31A model transmission, replace the entire transmission assembly."
hope that helps.

well...new tranny went in today in 6 hours. i was pretty impressed, mainly because i told them i would be out of town and they could have the car overnight...and they did it in 6 hours anyway.
i'll give you guys the new impressions tomorrow.

got her back today. i am a bit surprised because i really can't tell much of a difference at all. it is a little bit less notchy when shifting now, but i might be making up the improvement in my head. i am kinda glad that there is no big difference...i don't have to learn how to drive it again. the best part is just the piece of mind knowing that it is a new one...not one of the older, problem filled ones.
that is all.

I had my tranny replace because it was making a grinding noise when in third.
They replaced it and I got a new problem, when in fifth it will suddenly shift itself to neutral.
I am getting really impatient since I have had other problems with A/C and window motors (both left and right). Any of you taking legal actions?
