All of that goes on the cars manifest. If you were a prospective buyer and you looked up the cars history and noticed it was on it's 4th tranny and second engine, would you want to buy the car? Anytime a major component is replaced out of car it sends red flags to any buyer that's smart enough to do their homework.

I too used Mobil 1 5w30 and an m105 filter on my first oil change at 3000 mi. The car is now at 6000mi and I just changed the oil again and it was down 3 quarts. No smoking or dripping. It is just really scary when you only get 2.5 quarts out of the engine and your left wondering, "Is that it?"

I go to the dealer tomorrow for my first consumption reading. They said they check it, log it, add more if needed and then wait another 1k.

We'll see what Nissan wants to do about it......

I waited until 10k miles to switch to synthetic (Royal Purple). Since then I have not burned more than a quart in the last 10k miles. I have heard that switching to synthetic too early can cause ring seating problems, I have no idea if this is true or not, but it is the reason I waited until 10k.

Try Mobil1 0W-40 amd see if there is any change. I've had consumption problems on 3 different vehicles with the 5W30. My F150 would burn 2-3 Qts in 3000mi.

Verdict is a little over a half qt in 1000 miles. There is no standard for NNA , I guess it's a case by case kind of thing. I go back after another 1k for the next reading.

Their procedure is warm the car up for 20 mins, let it sit for 20 mins and then measure and refill until full. Record how much is used to fill it and that's your consumption. The tech then has to call NNA's tech line to report the findings.

The oil consumption has nothing to do with the type of oil or oil filter. My sister has an 03 Brickyard. I have a 03 CS. Both of our cars start to show oil comsumption after about 10k miles. She started to use Mobil-1 10W30 at around 6K miles. I've stuck to dino 5W-30. She uses Mobil1 filters. I've used OEM and Mobil1.

Use any oil or filter you want, but the Z engine flat out eats oil.

WOW!!8 quarts in 6k miles? for sure something is not right. UK350gt, did you buy the car new? and if you did, how did you break it in?.
Not saying anything but when I got my Z, I took 3 days of work and did a 1000 mile trip in all kinds of driving just so that I would not have a bad break period.
Good luck at solving your problem.

If your using that amount of oil something is wrong. I have 10K miles on my Z and I've never used any oil between 3K mile OCI. Nissan does not recommend synthetic oil for the Z (don't ask me why ??) . I've been using dealer supplied Mobil dino oil and OEM filter (I have the dealer do it) since it is under warranty. I don't want to give Nissan any room if I have a warranty problem.
