yeah its limited, you should have a bit more oomph. max hp isnt there till 6200RPMs. your still a bit off from that. lookin sharp tho.
184 is the theoretical top speed, but you cant hit that since the curve drops off sharp after max HP, with increasing drag and decreasing power, itll limit itself.
on the other hand, assuming hp increases from the 5600level its at, up to 6200 before it crests; that it can keep accelerating, your looking at just under 173mph. DAMN, thatd be some crazy ****.

Very nice. I just hope the roads were clear.
I have hit 160 before, but didn't hold it there for any time.
Ares...you must be kidding yourself. 184mph theoretical top speed? Maybe with a 15mph tail wind...or maybe a 350Z that dyno's 300rwhp.
Seriously...without a limiter a 350Z might see 170mph if your lucky. But for 184 you would need at least 60 more hp.

The Z is drag limited...Meaning it does not have enough power to go any faster in 6th gear. If I had another 20-25 BHP I would gave been able to hit 170-171 MPH. There is no limiter on the car it is just geared a little to tall for the horsepower. What fun though. The car was amazingly solid and felt great.

no they were reffering to a electronic speed inhibitor, holds the car to a specific speed, there is a law in america on what it is, I thought it was 155.
as for theoretical, I only meant that as 6600RPM redline and the gearing, but of course it doesnt have the power to get there. but without changing gears, it could move that fast with enough HP.

There is now law regarding the 155 thing. It is a sort of gentlemans agreement in germany with bmw, audi and benz about limiting all the cars at 155. This was done to get the german green party to shut up about putting more speed limits on the autobahn.
Most of these limiters make it to the US @ anywhere from 128 -155. The Z is electronicaly limited to 155.
Porsche does not limit their cars in the US or in Germany for that fact. You can take a stock C2 off the showroom floor at go hit 175 or what not.

I believe its electronically limited, what are the chances of both our cars not able to go above 156mph (with all the temperature conditions, wind, elevation etc.) because i hit the same limit 156mph.. Its not an abrupt limiter wich I think people are expecting the engine to suddenly cut power.

According to Car and Driver our cars are electronicly limited at 155mph. That is what i read in the magazine! So i would definatly think if there was no limiter you are talking somewhere 170-175mph God Damn that is awesome!!!

Car and Driver August '02 reports top speed as 156 drag limited.
They report the same top speed december '02.
The Z has a rev limiter not a speed limiter. The Z hits the rev limiter at 143 in 5th but doesn't have the power to reach it in 6th.
It would need whole crapload (technically speaking) more power to reach the rev limiter in 6th.
The U.S.A. has no laws regarding how fast cars are capable of going.
And 15-20hp is not going to see the Z over the 170 mark.
That would get it over 160 by maybe a few mph. That's it.
It takes a lot of power to have significant top speed increases. I forget the exact equation. Anyone refresh my memory?

this may help
Maybe this will explain the relationship between top speed and horsepower a little better. So before anyone flames me please read.
