It is an endless beach with no water. You can surf down the dunes though!

I was in Ruidoso, NM about a year ago, this was taken as we were coming out of the mountains heading south towards the desert, you can actually see white sands at the far end of this pic...

BTW i drove one of the funnest roads that I have ever driven in NM but i can't remember which one without looking at a map, this road cutting up through the mountains is pretty fun as well but it has a lot of traffic on it

Beautiful pics, I'm going to make another trip up there this summer i think...

Jakesford - the road you are talking about, is it the one that leads up to Ski Apache resort? That road is about 12 miles long and a nice twisty scenic drive.

cjgarland73 - nice pics. I have not been to White Sands but have only seen it from a distance from the ski resort. I like the Ruidoso area, nice and pretty. I learned to ski there too.
