maybe the customer doesn't like the idea of losing his front bumper support.
I started to think about that this week after my wife had a small accident in er Mercedes. damage is about $1500 or less. if the same accident happened in a Z with no bumper support..forget it.......intercooler, radiator, headlight, A/C condensor, etc would all be F'ed

General Question on this build
I have been researching a lot of options on a built bottom end. It seems to me (i could be wrong), it would be cheapers to just purchase the internal parts and have a qualified tech do the install. At that point, purchase the tt kit of choice yourself, and either do that install your self or have your tech do it. Why go through the trouble of purchasing an entire new block. Unless your having it sleeved, everything I have read show the block is stable enough to 550+ hp as long as the internals are replaced with better quality.

That was the initial goal but the customer was set on the block and saved me alot of time building an engine. It would be nice to have it sleeved but should be just about right for what he wants to do with the car. It is also alot easier to put the turbos on with the engine out of the car, so if your doing one you might as well spend the extra money and have both installed at the same time.

If you factor in paying for a completely built motor + turbo kit, and also the labor for pulling the motor multiple times since you probably didnt build the motor first, an RB would be comparable in price.

But then you would have a stock RB sitting in the car after 20k invested. You would need to invest another 7k into the RB to get to the level you could get the VQ to.

Arias Pistons
Pauter H-Beam Rods
New Stock Nissan Bearings (actually had choice for other brands same price)
All machining, blueprinting, balancing, bored, honed, assembly, etc...
ARP head, main, and ends
Cometic Head Gaskets
I bought the first shortblock turbokits every sold for the VQ35 and it was mispriced for $3895. This price included all the things listed above. Since then they have corrected their prices and now charge $4,500 for just the just the shortblock without the head gasket or the ARP hardware. So in the end this was a very reasonable buy becuase of a mispricing issue. I will say that Turbokits stood behind their product and did not give many any hassle on the price difference. They are great to deal with.
As for the install, the Cincinnati shop Raceline Fined Tuned, as the pictures show, are doing a great job on the install. I am sure more pics will follow. Thanks for all the help guys.
