Do you know how to read? Dude was quoted 300 JUST FOR THE SIDE SKIRTS. When he got there, he was told that there would be more extensive modifications needed to fit the sides. And then dude added that he wanted LED side markers added and his rear emblems shaven.

REMEMBER there are always 3 sides to a story. This guy's side, the body shop guy's side, and the 100% truth side. No one can make a judgement only hearing one side. For the OP to be this aggressive and to go to the point of actually thinking of withholding money from something that he was billed for services rendered is dishonest.

Accepted, I'm just saying...... if you take care of yourself in a complete and legal fashion, you never have to deal with situations like this one. While it sucks that you ended up owing a lot more than you had expected, I do believe that in any other business you involve yourself in, you will be much more savvy. Best of luck with your car for as long as you own it.

I was thinking the same thing? I know if the sidemarkers require cutting, most shops charge $100-200 for that, and most shops charge an additional $100-150 for prep on some parts if they aren't perfect, add in the shaving of the emblems, and you are right around $600. I would consider $600 a fair price if the work done is good, better than taking it somewhere cheap and getting shoddy work. I regret not taking my spoiler to the more expensive place just to save $100, because the shop couldn't get the color right after 3 tries.

when you say you go the emblems on the hatch shaved do you also mean the nissan burger?
I thought there were holes in the metal for that one, if he took that off and filled in the holes then the extra 225 was a deal with the sidemarkers.

Damn, thats expensive. Did u even ask how much extra to put the led lights and shave the emblem? Im not sure if u did from the first page. I think when u shave the emblem, the whole hatch must be painted as well. I could be wrong but that is a lot of work. Hope everything workss out for u.

I missed the part about the rear emblem being shaved. Does the Z have holes behind the emblems or just double sided tape basically? If he had to get the whole hatch re-done, then you got a deal my friend. Side markers are simple, a 12 year old with a dremel could do them.

I saw this on People's court: Get a written estimate and if they want to add more $$$ have them write that down too. Take them to small claims.

The emblem on the hatch does have 2 holes behind the 3m tape so that would require fill, sanding and paint. I missed that too.

sorry guys, the emblem was removed but not shaved....he put two little plugs where the emblems should be, so basically he just took it off for me. and guess what, i looked at the estimate that was printed out for me, and the LED's or the removing of the emblems aren't on there....I'll get a list and post it up as soon as possible.

so i still have to get the hatch shaved properly, but i'm takin my car elsewhere.

i was advised to pick up the car and not leave it there for another second, possibly fight this down the road.

and i will post pics!!

ok, here is the final estimate

they charged me $349.60 for sheet metal which is 38 bucks an hour.
they charged me $140.60 for refinish plus $31.86 sales tax.
they charged me $74.00 for paint material and $4.81 for sales tax.

all of these charges are for the side skirts, he did not charge me for the LED's or removing the emblems in the back....i guess that's where i got my discount, LOL.

anyways, can someone please explain to me what the hell sheet metal has to do with this? i'm not sure what that means....

No, it is not. You only spoke to him about the sides. When you got there, you had additional requests.

Of course, $300 for sheet metal is making me wonder what parts of this story are yet to be revealed.

yea but fluid...if u were the bodyshop would u charge me to install some LED's and take off my emblems?? that is very small work..and I wasn't charged for it.....

so does anyone know why he's chargin me for sheet metal?? all I had done were the installation of my sides....which I provided to him.

It depends. How much was involved with the side markers, and do the emblems attack to the car in a way that punctures the metal, and if so, it is costly o fill holes and colormatch.

I still don't know WTF the sheet metal is there for, it's not like he fabbed you a wing out of the stuff.

well the side markers are LEDS so you have to connect them to the headlights and like a said before, they removed the emblems but did not shave it. meaning they only took the emblems off, that's it. also if you look at the estimate, none of the money is for the LED's or the emblem removal....I will ask tomorrow and see what the sheet metal was for because ur right....keep yall posted.
