Default i got ripped a new one!

well i took my car to a body shop and was quoted $300 to get some side skirts painted and installed, then after I drop the side skirts off, he said that it would cost around $375 because of some molding issues with the fiberglass....ok that's fine. I had them take off the emblems in on the hatch and install some LED sidemarkers, and when I go to pick up the car, the guy is charging me $600.87 cents....was I ripped a new a*shole??? I feel I was because I was quoted so cheap......I feel like I'm being swindled....opinions plz.

why won't they stand behind their quote? they even got to inspect the pieces before the install.

Edit... did you get a sepeate quote for the addtional work you asked for?

Before they do the work they should inspect all the pieces and give you an itemized quote of parts and labor. Afterwards, when the work is being done, if any extra expenses are needed they would need to call you first.

If You Got A Written Estimate For Everything Then I'd Refuse Payment For The Extra Amount!

WHAT??? I can't believe HE did that. He honored the estimate amount for me.
Maybe Kevin could help since he knows him well? At least he should be able to tell you what the change was attributed to and he should have called you prior to doing anything with that info. What work did he have to do to the skirts? Where they already primed or did he have to sand and prime them? That's the only thing I can think of for such a dramatic change. I'd definitely like to see the breakdown on this. I'm sorry man. If there's any way I can help, let me know.

I'll see if he's around today and have him pm you for details...
Are the V1's the job in question? If so, I agree with you the cost should have been lower being the size of the parts and not a full skirt type.

no, the v1's are what i'm selling now....he painted a full sized skirt for me. and if he would've told me 600 dollars from the start, i couldn't complain and i would've took my business elsewhere.....

that's where i went wrong, i didn't get a written estimate before the job was done, only verbal....so basically, he could lie and it would be my word against his....its a losing battle but i will never refer anyone to them again, terrible business practices.

I wouldn't pay, it was a verbal agreement. At least he should have called and said "Oh I ran into an issue.. it'll bump the cost up by $220"

shady shop.. I'd give him what you agreed on and if he complains he can take you to court for the $200

Lesson learned on not getting the quote in writing, but I definitely wouldn't pay the amount he is saying if he didn't give you a heads up....
