SuperBlack350z's Paint Job Progress Thread
Even though my paint was in pretty much perfect condition, OEM will never be a show quality paint job. Orange peel, waving, clear coat quality..none of these were to my liking. No oem paint every will make me happy. This time, i went with an all over paint job, all jambs with most panels taken off including doors and hatch and fenders. This is more of a higher end paint job.
I went ahead and gone with Magnetic black as my next color. Super black color code is too hard to keep up with. It's such a solid, dark black, no pearl color, it's a pain to keep clean. I never had trouble but my cleaning process takes way to long to keep up with the car. I opted for high quality PPG paint and clear coat. it's not the standard oem 2-3 coats of clear. It's going to be recleared twice with 5 coats of clear total. More clear doesn't mean better but in this case, it will and will have much more room to play when i buff my car.
it's been about a month since it has been in the shop. I got to go down there today and check things out. Body work is almost done. Fenders are rolled since it's the best time to do it so insure no cracking will ever come back down the road. this was important.
they just took my doors off and started to work on that. every looks very good and to my liking. They are smoothing it down a lot because oem came with some waving still need to shave a few things but it should be in the paint booth next week. Hopefully i will get it back in two weeks.
hopefully i get pics of paint next week. can't wait.
also, my wheels look horrible in these pics. don't know why.

thanks. I would of done a color change to that lexus dark mica color but i can't believe you stole my idea before i did! you bastard..lol.
Magnetic black. I detailed of a couple of them and they look amazing in the sunlight and in special lighting at night. Its just the horrible oem nissan clear that i didn't like.
haha, you are the first one to say that. if i went with a much different color hue, i would have to pull the engine out completely and do it right. it would of been about another 3000 bucks. this paint job is quite pricey already as is.
Thanks Dan. i appreciate that.
thanks man.
Me either. For the first three months, it can't be wax, only glazed here and there. usually with a new paint job, you will have a bit of buffer trails and what not not, especially on darker colors. I'll do some simple hand glaze on it until i can really give it a good detail in the summer time.

after the third clear coat, they will wetsand and buff, then do two more coats of clear. this will give it a really deep glossy look that will be amazing.
engine bay stay the same. Our engines are coated with a special paint that withstands heat and what not. My engine bay is in perfect condition, no rust anywhere on the car so i thought i would just keep it the same. everywhere else on the car will have new paint.
