Default New addition to the family!

Today we traded in my girlfriend's 2003 Honda Civic for a new 2009 GTI. 6-spd manual, 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo. This thing is a lot of fun to drive and the interior quality is top notch (sorry didn't take any photos of the interior). The Z had a fresh wash and wax so I snuck it in there too. Enjoy!

That's legit, I test drove one of those cars and they are pretty fun cars! Any future mods planned?

Not sure yet. There is a lot about this car that I like right out of the box: The suspension is sporty but not too stiff or jarring; the torque delivery is great when the turbo is boosting; the wheels that came with it are a decent offset and are not too tucked in. I had mentioned to her that we could look at getting a little more horsepower out of it but if we do that I want to upgrade suspension first. In my opinion this car is on the verge of having too much torque steer to be fun when you have your foot planted to the floor and take one hand off the wheel to shift. The front end really feels like it's lifting and the steering gets real loose. (I had forgotten the joys of high-powered front wheel drive). I am thinking that stiffer suspension will reduce the squat during acceleration and help keep the power on the ground.

First mod though will be the sound system. The OEM system actually isn't bad, but after years of having aftermarket car audio the OEM headunit is very limiting. VW offers an iPod control cable but it doesn't give you full iPod functionality, and the functionality it does give you is slow / buggy. I am thinking a new double-din head unit w/ good iPod capability (I have a ddx512 in my Z that works well). We might even put off new speakers / amp / sub for a while because the existing speakers sound decent.

Forgot to include this yesterday, I did find one picture of the interior. Materials seem to be high quality, the plaid seats are "pretty" so says the girl. The doors give you a nice "thud" when they close, not a "slam / rattle" like the Z haha:

Nice! Congrats. The seats are not my cup of tea but as long as she likes it, it's all good!

Nice looking VW.

I hope her reliability works out well for you, and that she wears gracefully (both areas of questionable history with Vdub)

Yeah I'm a little concerned about paying for repairs once the warranty runs out, but I have my fingers crossed. In the meantime we'll just focus on enjoying it and trying not to beat it up too hard : )
