go down to the riverwalk. nice restaurants. some nice bars. decent shopping. I was in San Antonio about 3 months ago and there was a terrible amount of construction going on. I hated driving around that city.

I am in no hurry to go back.

You think SA is bad? Try Houston.

When growth comes, construction goes with the territory. I guarantee you, SA has more to offer than Jacksonville NC.

To OP: Where in SA are you staying? Plenty of things to do in town or surrounding areas.

we're gonna be staying near I-10 and 1604 ( NW side?) ...we book dinner at the 'Tower of America' ....that'll be interesting... what time does river walk close, cause we wont be done with dinner till 10pm. If they are closed, any cool place you suggest checking out going after 10p? clubs, bars are options...

From my small experience most of the downtown restaurants blow. As far as shopping wouldn't it be better going to North Star or La Cantera malls?

the river walk doesnt really close, and everything is expensive, but its cool if your visiting. I agree as far as la cantera for best shopping. I dont think you can beat the mexicn food in SA.

fyi, Tower of the Americas is a nice place to visit, but the food is always nasty. Many nicer places you can go to.

I suggest you save your $$$s and go to another restaurant instead of the Tower of Americas. If you're looking for Mexican food, Market Square in downtown SA is a good place. Mi Tierra is a good Mexican restaurant there. There is another across IH35 by the downtown UTSA campus (I forgot the name). Like someone else said, the River Walk never closes. Just like any big city, just be careful after 2am. Howl at the Moon is a great place to go - it's a unique experience with their piano bar. I guarantee you will enjoy it there.

Very true. while you are correct that SA has much more to offer than good ole jacksonville I didn't grow up here. I moved here because of the marine corps. I grew up in Ann Arbor MI, a very culturaly diverse area. I in no way insulted the diversity or availability of things to do I simply posted my oppinion based on my experiences. I have lived in areas with constant construction and my family owns a large construction company back home. to me it was much worse than a normal amount of construction for the growth that I could see.

OP sorry to get off track there. I am sure you will have a great time. I was only in SA for one weekend so I didn't get to do much. Everyone has a different experience so I hope you have a better time than I did.

thanks for asking...
unfortunately, the person who i was gonna go with got into a pretty bad car accident the day we were planning on heading to SA. I had to spend some time with her in ER all afternoon. Bad news is her car ( 2007 tsx) will prolly be totaled, but good news is that she's alive with some muscle pain and occasion head aches. We will have to schedule a visit to SA another time. Thanks again for all the inputs you guys.

Sorry to hear about the accident. The car can be replaced. At least your friend survived. Please send my regards . . .
