Have you ever thought about one of the non SCCA events. I know Equipe Rapide puts on similar type events, uses scca rules, but is less money and less competitive.
They have something going on both next week and in the next months
August 23, 2009 - Pennington Field
September 20, 2009 - Pennington Field
October 11, 2009 - Pennington Field
November 7, 2009 - Mineral Wells Airpark
November 8, 2009 - Mineral Wells Airpark

That sounds much more reasonable to me and I was told those same prices also.
Thanks for posting our class, Jake
It was in my way.
But yeah, I knew 38s were possible, but definitely not on your first time and probably only during heat1. If you had run a 38 the first day our, I probably would've fainted.

IMO my times spoke for themselves, starting with a FAIL 51secs down to 45 my last run...
I'm positive if we had a few more runs, my times would have continued to improve... and i must admit, Gibbs did extremely well for being his first time as well..
I blame it on the HR dammit... !!!
Also found a guy Roger or Robert, gave me a ride in his S2000 with R-Compunds, most exhilarating ride of the day! i went to see the track from a drivers prospective, and found myself trying to keep my head attached to my shoulders the entire time...
It was still a blast, looking forward to the next event!
Chris, you're suppose to go AROUND the cones bud! lol...
that's cool... i just went completely around the cones and made my OWN track... lol...
I know i'm suppose to go THIS way... but THAT was is sooo much easier!
Shortcuts FTMFW! DNF for FTMFL!

Prop's go out to Justin - GIBBS - as he had the fastest time of the day which rocks!!!! great for a beginner! you need to get yourself some R-compounds and whoop it up!!
I bought my R-comps here - http://www.jbracingtires.net/
Ask for some take offs - I got mine for 280 shipped. all four were 275/45/17's - they were the tires Jacob was running!
Mount them on stockers or look into some light weight wheels for autoX. see here: https://my350z.com/forum/7644727-post33.html

Does anyone know if they require you to work a session. Call me crazy but I am not paying someone an average of $6.25 per minute plus spend an hour or more running after cones in 95 degree weather?

I would bet they probably do...........when you register for the SCCA events you can put down Grid/traffic control etc.........if your not up for running after cones....the directing traffic control gigs are good ones...you can take a chair and all....

Hi guys!
I was the driver of the red Evo X (BSP 11).
If you want to do these type events and want more seat time and less cars (so less running after cones), here's what I recommend:
Equipe Rapide (ER)
4 regular runs + $10 for 2 more "Rapide PAX" runs -- where basically the money goes into a pot and the top 20 drivers get paid. Hard to win money in here though unless you're really fast.
They will create your own class for the 4 regular runs if you want. They did it for the Honda Civic club earlier this year. Just contact Gerry or one of the other board members about setting it up (or contact me and I'll contact them for you).
Re: the FX... they might let it come out. The issue is that SUVs and trucks have a higher possibility of rollovers. Typically it's a measurement of the track to height that's used to determine if the car's allowed.
BMW CCA
8 runs, 4 in the morning, 4 in the evening. Cheaper if you're a BMW CCA member, but typically $30-40. Non BMWs are classed in very broad groups so you'd all be in the same class unless you were on r-comps. The course setups can be iffy though (although I hear the one last weekend was very good).
NTAXS (formerly S2000 club)
$20-30/event for 8 runs, 4 in the morning, 4 in the evening. Broad groups like the BMW club. Events are typically limited to 60 cars (more or less). Fun group to run with.
Porsche Club (PCA)
I've not run with them, so I can't comment on it.
If you're interested in more seat time, there's always Apex ($200/day), The Drivers Edge ($300/weekend), Eagles Canyon open track days ($150/day), and NASA HPDE ($300/weekend). All of these include instruction and you get 4-6 20-30 minute sessions per day. This will eat tire, brakes, gas, etc. though.

Running after the cones was ok... it especially let me know where the rough spots were on the track... (didn't seem to help the first run tho')
It was all fun and games until my back started to give me problems... cant stand up for TOO long... and cant sit for too long either... go figure

yeah, i did alot of last minute scrambles... then when working the course, i repositioned my self in the middle of the track... where everyone kept running over the 1 cone that you're suppose to swerve around...
got tired of running all the way out there to get it... i said f-it... i'm staying right here... out of the way anyway...
The officials didn't like me (on my feet) but kneeling... told me i couldn't sit down... i was like "I'm not really sitting, just getting closer to the pavement for some better shots..."
so they wont tell you not to use that... that's almost kind of strange... i can move alot faster from a kneeling position than a leaning back one... o-well i guess

You definitely can't use a chair on course with any of the clubs, and you've got to stay on your feet. You need to be able to get out of the way if a car would wander astray. For other work assignments it may be OK, but definitely not on course.
Just so you guys know - we can also set up a special class for you - I offered that up a couple of times but no one was interested.
If you guys can get 3 events under your belts before the end of September you're more than welcome to come run the road course. It's a blast!
