I just went back and read the potential entry list from this site. There's a lot of folks who are planning to come out and spectate. Spectating is OK, but I promise once you see what's going on you'll want to participate. Someone once described spectating at an autocross event as similar to watching paint dry without the benefit of fumes. It's not quite that bad, but participating is so much better.

Don't be intimidated - everyone out there had a first time event, and I promise you they remember it. They'll also be happy to help you out at your first event.

I'm going to try to make this.

One question for Solo RX-7, though:
What if I have nitrous installed in my car (not intending to use, though)? The bottle is currently empty and I'd take it out for the event, but my bottle bracket will rattle all over the place without the bottle in place.

LMAO!!! watching paint dry... i'd like to point out that i seriously considered competing, however, i need a new clutch... ugh... then i'll really be looking for the next one...

meantime, i'll be taking the pictures...

My question to you is, how close will I be allowed to the track to get some good photos?

Dude, you've been making excuses for as long as I've known you. Time to man up and quit making excuses!

I'm almost certain my car is exactly wide as it is tall. I got 62" when I did more accurate measurements. I'm still questionable on the height though. I think I measured a little higher than it really is.

Looking at buying a helmet, is this one approved for auto X and road racing? Also does he seem to be asking a fair price? Any other comments appreciated. Link below:

I would offer a bill - if you really like it.. from what Ive heard you can call around bike shops for returns and they sell those cheap.

I ordered mine new for a bill.. and here is another you may want to consider and its only 50 bucks..

Get a 2x4 and lay it across the top...then get a level and put it on the 2x4......make it level and have someone else measure from the ground while you hold it all straight.......

You'll definitely have to remove the bottle. Hopefully the bracket is fastened securely - if it is, you'll be fine. If the bracket isn't fastened securely it will have to be before you can compete. If it's just a matter of the straps rattling you can roll up a towel or other soft object and clamp it in there like it's a bottle.

For everyone: If you have loose stuff - battery, bottle mount, fire extinguisher, extra anvil in the hatch area - please make sure you take care of it before Sunday morning. It would really suck to have to do repairs in the paddock area while everyone else is walking the course and getting ready for the event.

Also - I forgot to mention in my first post: Tech has number panels that you can use if you don't have your own numbers. They also have the markers and tape you'll need to make the numbers and fasten the panel to your car. They're similar to the one Jason showed in pics earlier in the thread.

You'll be able to get close enough that you'll get some exciting shots with a medium zoom. Most of our regular photogs use a 200mm - 300mm telephoto. If you want to get right into the action we can send you on course, but you'll have to have a spotter with you. Find one of the event officials (in the orange shirts) and they'll be able to hook you up with a spotter. You must let control and/or safety know before you head on course with a spotter - don't just go wandering out there.

It must be Snell 95 or newer. 95 represents the year of the Snell rating. They update the rating approx every 5 years. That add didn't specify a rating, so it could be 90, 85 or even older. If you bought it and it wasn't 95 or newer you wouldn't be allowed to use it. That would be a drag. If you plan on roadracing, most sanctioning bodies require a Snell A (automotive) rating. For solo we accept Snell M (motorcycle) or A.

I wouldn't spend any money on a helmet unless you need it for something else, you just really want one, or you have a whole ton of money burning a hole in your pocket. Our loaners are approved and meet all the requirements, and they're free to use during your runs. I'm notoriously cheap - Free is good.

I tried this with a broom also. Problem is the roof rails get in the way. I'm gonna find one of my really flat pieces of wood that can slide under the roof rail.

Anyone want a harness bar for this weekend????

Easy install and then go buy harnesses locally or request speedy shipping..??
I know of some shops that have harnesses local to dfw in stock.
