Default How many people use/plan to use winter tires?

My Z is my daily driver, I just ordered Blizzak LM22's from tirerack. Anyone else use winter tires? Do you like them?

i run snows in the winter time...they keep soft in sub-freezing temps. not by any means do i drive my car in snow but if i get caught in some flurries i don't have to pray that i will make it home safe.

i once got caught in like an inch of snow and the tires were great once moving, but the Zs tail from a stand still got all sorts of loose. the best way to drive i've found is to turn off traction control at a stand still. start if you can in 2nd gear and then once moving at 10mph hit the traction control on.

snowtires/all seasons are 1000% better than any summer tire in the snow...NO QUESTIONS ASKED! The best investment for your Z if you live in the northeast and drive during the winter.

I plan to use some this coming winter....I had a real bad experience last winter when it has snowed/iced 3 inches and I had to get home (25+ miles) with only my stock Potenza's, which had barely any tread on them in the first place

Andy, I plan on ordering the same exact tires from tirerack. I was trying to decide on whether to just order the tires and have them mounted/removed twice a year or whether or not to get a "winter" set of wheels. What did you decide to do? Ive heard nothing but good things about the 22s

Bump for some more snow tire discussion with winter coming to the area.

Had considered the LM22s also looking at the Kumho ECSTA ASX as an all season replacement. Just dont get enough snow around here to bother (I dont think) and my commute is only @ 10 miles a day, all on major, cleared roads (495).

Thoughts or comments for the upcoming winter from guys who will actually be driving their Z like me? Deciding now between buying snows and flipping them twice a year or buying all seasons and doing it once.

I commute about 20 miles, but its all on the 28. Fairly clear usually. Im lucky enough to have the option of working from home and/or going in late, leaving early, etc etc.

Altho this is the first year I will be driving the Z in the snow, if its anything like my stang, im not going to worry about tires. The ones I have on now have done really well in all this wet weather (some yoko's I think donno offhand).

I might change my tune later though =)

i just got my winter setup all ready to go. I went with stock 17 wheels that i got from someone on the forum for $250 and then dunlop wintersport m3 tires (225/50/17 and 225/55/17) from a local shop. All in all i got the wheels and tires mounted and balanced and everything for about 1000.

I see that a lot of you run the snow tires. This will be my first winter with this car. I drive 47 miles to work, ALL highway. I figured I am just going to try these weak stock wheels this year. I also figured I can use that to my advantage at my job. Especially b/c of my commute! Any sign or word of snow, I will just let my boss know that I gotta go or I will take the day off. Hopefully I will be safe this winter!

Andy -

You'll love the Blizzacks. I used them last winter in Chicago and am about to put them on again for this winter. Took my Z from being a disaster in snow, to being pretty decent. Can't say enough good about them.

well i belive we are going to get a lot of snow this winter so be ready.

if we do get a lot of snow i dont think i will be driving much even if i had snow tires, i trust my driving but i sure as hell dont trust the people around me.

last winter i saw too many cars messed up because someone didnt know how to drive in the snow and they ran off the road hitting other cars.

I had my Blizzak LM22's put on my stock 17" wheels on Sat (11/26/05). Car doesn't feel that much different on dry pavement but that's not really the purpose of these tires anyway. I drove on my stock Potenzas last winter and it SUCKED, I hope these are going to be a decent improvement.

Andy -

That's what I was working with - the stock Potenzas. Believe me, when it snows, it'll be like night and day.

then pick up a 2nd set of wheels and put the snows on them. a few twisties is not worth getting stuck in the snow, or worse

My Z is my outdoor, daily, year round driver - thats why I bought it. Just me, but lifes too short to drive a beater, as the sig says. I'll feel more safe in this car with all seasons, traction control and front and side airbags than I would in any $3,000 thing I picked up. I grew up driving winters in Central NH and have been here 10 years driving the "winters" here, so I dont think the Z will fare too badly when kept under control.

Going to decide after this weekend which ones to get, but leaning towards the Kumhos. Just dont want to pay for the mounting and remounting each year, pluse in Alexandria/Tysons, the beltway is usually well taken care of.

Stay safe on Sunday night
