Default Benefit for Katrina victims

Hey all,
We always said that the Capital 350Z / G35 Club would participate in Charity/fund-raising activities, and I can think of no better charity right now than relief for the victims of Katrina.

How would you all feel about grouping together at a local grocery store or mall with our cars and setting up a donation point, with all proceeds to go to the American Red Cross? We could do this next weekend, or a night this week. Given the need to act quickly, respond here, and if we can get 10 or 15 guys to commit, we'll call around and fine a place to host this effort.

I'd like to propose next Sunday as a day, and maybe either a mall or grocery store in Tysons, Springfield, or Rockville.

If you can come, please post up ASAP. I feel compelled to try and do something other than watch these folks suffering on my TV every day, and this is an opportunity for us to do something good as a group. Hope you all can participate.

Kelly,

As I have been touched by tragedy, my wife lost her first husband on 9/11, I am up for this. The only catch for me is I am not available next Sunday this being the fourth anniversary of that day. Any other day and I'm good.

I'm also down Kelly,

9/11 is my mother's birthday and we are planning a birthday party for her on that day any other day I'm free.

Kelly, I completely support your initiative and will do what I can to make myself available and/or help out in whatever form I can. With that said, let me toss out a couple sentiments I've heard from some other folk, in case they are an issue for any of the members here. Some have voiced an aversion to ARC because it is a large organization that has alot of overhead. Without denying the value it plays in tragedies, such as the current one, some have indicated that it can be more efficient to fund a small charity, or to purchase personal hygiene products directly, which can be given to a relief organization, to ensure that all or more of the funds directly benefit the Gulf Coast residents. Again, I'm supporting the ARC, but just thought I'd allow everyone to consider possible alternatives.

I'd like to help out, but I can't make it next weekend. If we do it some night this week, then I'm definitely there.

Is there a weeknight that works best for people? I don't think it would be worthwhile to show up with 3 or 4 cars. 10 or 15 would be more appropriate to justify such an event.

What about Wednesday night, maybe not this Wednesday, but next Wednesday. That'll give people time to get this on their calendar and find a place to host it.

If we can get 10 people to commit to a date, I'll get us a place to conduct this.
