MIR will let you turn 11-12's with a vert and no roll cage?

I highly doubt it... But that is why I have an appointment with Piper MotorSports Friday. They will take a look and tell me what they think about a removable 4 or 6 point cage. I would have to have that before I drop the new engine in.

Please keep in mind I have only done this once, and only had about 6 runs in that day. I am running a pathetic 13.4 now with a 1/4 speed of 109mph on street tires, well outside the range of a roll bar/cage. I am hoping instead of just dropping it at 6000, I will take some time and be patient and try more of a slip around 1700 - 2000 rpm and that will give me more traction and bring my time down to 13.. I think if I get into the 12's I need the roll bar, and the in the 11's a cage.

Brent, If you're in the 13s now, I'd suggest not at all worrying about a launch, and simply babying it out of the hole. Especially on street tires. Was that 109mph trap with your current setup? How long were you spinning?

Nothing wrong with 13.4 seconds. 400 plus horsepower can be more difficult to use that 250. With practice you and the numbers will improve.

Chris,
That was last fall/winter. So, say about 75 - 90 whp less then what I am currently running now. I have since put in the HKS F-con, 1000cc injectors, new bigger exhaust, carbon clutch style LSD, test pipes, open dumps, and upgraded cooling stuff then tuned it for 10 PSI instead of the 8.5 previously. The suspension, wheels and tires are the same though (brakes, rotors and fuel system are different also not that that matters here)

I spent a good bit of time either spinning or hopping for the first 60' I have kept the time slips, and they just bug me... I really need to get out of the hole better, so new axles, drag radials and racing wheels on order for the May 26th track rental/ race day.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, a roll bar and an SFI 16.1 driver-restraint system will be mandatory for convertibles running 13.49 or quicker.

I believe that the OEM bar meets this requirement.

Sounds like you're well on your way to some sick times. Bet it's a beast on the highway, though. Decide if you can make AKA Rally yet, to beat up on some poor, unsuspecting cars?

David,

Yes I was told this rule was in effect, but thought it was only enforced for 12's and lower. As for the Stock bar, there is none. As far as I can tell those roll hoops are only plastic and do not provide any actual support.
For safety sake, I will be attempting to get a rollbar ASAP. It is just a matter of timing. I have a lot of shows and events I want to go to. I hope they can put the cage in a week or so.

Chris,

I am still looking into it. I have hit the website and started checking it out. But right now I am in a bit of a logistical nightmare in trying to get my car complete and down to Daytona for the Funkmaster Flex show and the Spring Break National Show. Then back up to Virginia by April 1st for the first Mid Atlantic Mega Meet in Woodbridge. The following weekend SEMAAuto Salon in PA. I get a weekend off before HIN is at Dulles. I swear I have some event at least every other weekend through June.

DAMN, just checked HIN at Atlantic City is just 3 days before you start in Vegas… Crud, would have been much easier if you did the Philly -> Florida run this year and the Vegas one last year… Hum, will have to have a deep think about this. Might be a good break from all of the shows I will have done by then. Heck, if I am not winning anything in the first couple of shows, I will definitely go… LOL I want to try something like this anyway.

Yea the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Now I just need to divert some $$$ from the 'car build' funds..

Sounds like you've definitely got enough shots scheduled for this year. AKA would definitely mix it up!

Keep me updated.

Thanks,

Chris
