I was just joking man... No big deal.
I know a few cars out there that are rocking some serious setups with Vertical Doors. I just lost to one at the FunkMaster Flex show....
Now I need to do more to make the car stand out. Obviously the doors/graphics and heavy HP are not enough... Oh well, more stuff to plan I guess...

I believe Pumped VA and Bambam have the best Vertical doors around, although kco and stillnz are still nice as well. What kits do you fellas have? I'm not looking to do it, just curious as I believe that your two kits are REALLY vertical, not semi-vertical.

Bambam, do you have any pics of what beat you at the Flex show? Just curious because your car has some serious work done to it. I would like to know how much invested this other car had?!?!

labos, spoilers, body kits , wheels, suspension, turbo kits, super chargers, roll cage, NOS, tv's in the car. They all have a purpose in our cars. Whether is for show, street or track. The cars don’t come with any of these options so if u do any of these mods. It’s the same as doing lambos. It’s all in the taste of the driver and every one is entitle to their opinion. As long as it looks good and not tacky im all up for it…. GOOOOO LAMBOS!

Silkk,

Pumped and I have the GT Factory vertical door kits.

Here is JL’s car…. As you can see the leather is very nicely done and the 2 bottles of Nitrous with automatic openers are well placed behind the seats. I can give an estimate that his trunk and matching leather doors probably ran around $15k for all the custom work. The trunk setup is maybe a bit much for me… I guess I just need to figure out how far I want to go. I like a few of the things he has done and I will take those and modify them to my taste I think.

I prefer to have a racing car, but show judges really do not care about all that stuff. They judge on what the average person can see in your car and not how much work in the engine/exhaust/suspension you have done.

Peace,--B

This is where I always have trouble justifying "show cars" anymore.

I'm not saying I'm against them b/c I once invested $15-17k into a first gen Dodge Neon for built motor (12:1 comp, Stage 6 Crane Cams, etc.), custom paint, wheels body kit, shaving, ICE, doors, etc. but after that experience it definitely opened my eyes. I lost my ace when I sold it to buy the Z. Now, I do some minor/tasteful mods (see my sig for my Z mods) and try to keep it under $5k (which I'm approaching in the Z already) to differentiate from stock, but I've given up on the show deal a while ago. It's just ridiculous what you need to do to win anymore...

I mean, honestly, your car has a TON of work done and should be able to win a lot of shows, but as you noted you aren't winning yet, which is quite ludicrous. I'm being conservative here, I'm going to guess you have $37+k into buying a roadster, you told me in person you had $10-12k into the TT setup, and I'm guessing another $10-15k on body kit, wheels, seats, ICE, etc. And like I said that is conservative. So, that sits you at about $60-65k for the car and mods at this point with another $5k needed to win. And what's the perk? You get some trophies? You get some cash maybe? You get on some magazines maybe? I just don't think it adds up considering the car becomes so impracticle, borderline undrivable, and less reliable. I mean, if you daily drove or even drove your car every weekend, you'd have knicks and scratches you'd need to fix before you could win a big event...

I guess if I was in the position, I would just take the 70k and spend it on a Viper, Z06, High-end Bimmer, etc. Something that is still exclusive, exotic, and fast and probably more reliable and apt to drive everyday. Not that people want to drive a Viper or Z06 daily, but you wouldn't be worrying about a scratch stopping you from a trophy, so you'd drive it more, and harder. I don't know...

Like you said, "How far do you go?"

Ps - In no way was the above statement a "bash" of people like BamBam, kcobean, etc. I totally respect those vehicles for what they are. And I don't mind at all spending 5000-10000 building an engine (as it will make the car faster than most street cars, trackable, yet still be able to be driven daily or "often")

I just think its ridiculous how much you need to spend to win a stinkin' trophy anymore at a respectable event...

Silkk,

I agree with you and at some point I will have to say 'No More' but for the moment it's a hobby. I am not in town during the week and renting a car in the winter was my other form of transportation up until now.

I have always approached this as an expenditure. Like my traveling/diving and other entertainment I have enjoyed over the years. This was something unexpected and new when I came back to the US a few years ago. I enjoy hanging out with everyone, learning new things and it keeps me out of trouble (most of the time anyway). But the reality is, I will be leaving the country again at some point and the car will have to stay behind. It is a possession and like everything else is disposable (but by no means an easy thing to dispose of)

I guess the point of my rambling is that I will continue to play the game until such a time as I can no longer afford to or my time has come to move on to another stage in my life. As long as we accept this when starting or during the advancing stage of monetary involvement we all take responsibility for our financial actions.

OK, enough of my soapbox speeches.

Lets all have fun and hit the track soon....

--B

FYI: I have a lot more into the car then most would think.

I agree, it had to be the Trunk setup and the twin Nitrous tanks behind the seats.

Gotcha. I have ordered my new wheels and DR's should be here in a few weeks. I will not race with them until I get the new axle's installed in April. On streets I am not too worried.

I envy cars like Bambam's and Kcobean's. (Not sure if I've ever seen StillenZ's) I wish I had that kind of money to put into my Z. I may have spent it a little differently, but the end result would be close to the same. Personally, I'm not a big fan of lambo doors. The reason being is money. That's $2000 I can put towards getting a twin turbo set up. If money were not an issue, then perhaps I'd get them too. Unfortunetly, I have things like rent, insurance, BGE, cable, Ma Bell, and more importantly food, that requires alot of my cash. Every dime that I spend on my car is wasted. Its all for entertainment... there is ZERO return on it. An automobile is not an investment. Because of this, I'm very picky when it comes to what I purchase for my car. However, I'm not completely all go and no show. I will be adding aesthetics in the future. My car will never win any shows, but it'll be done up to my liking.

Although I don't share in Kelly's or Bam's desire to show (or their wealth) I can appreciate it. Much like a track meet or dyno day is great way to get together with fellow enthusiasts, so is a car show. I've been to a bunch of great car shows and always had a good time. I also understand that to compete on a level that they are... lambos are a must.

Anyways, I'm rambling now too. I guess in the end, all that matters is what you like... not what the other guy likes. (unless he's a judge) If someone wants to put lambo doors on their Z, more power to 'em. Atleast the Z is not a four door car with window frames!
