Default Front Bumper License Plate

2 questions from this thread....

1. In our area, hoe are the cops in giving tickets with cars without license plates. I just got a new kit and do'nt have front plates now, so I'm wondering how bad are the cops in our area........

2. Is there something (or some tool), that I can get to mount a license plate on the open grill area of my front bumper. I heard someone say that there is a screw that attaches onto the grill area to hold up the plates.

Let me know guys, the last thing I need is more tickets!!

Mike (guy with INGS +1 kit, sponsored by K&N) told me how to do it. Something about a tow bolt or something. hopefully he can chime in about it.

stillen also has an adapter that screws into the toe hook so there is nothing simpler.

Just buy a 5/8 bolt and nut from Home Depot,98cents. Drill a hole in the top of the license plate to size of bolt. Thread nut and bolt through the back of the license plate and through the back of the tow hitch, in that order. Tighten with nut. No bracket needed.

Thanks Mike...I got the idea from him at the AAM meet as well.

I got mine sitting behind the windshield on the passenger side... haven't had any complaints yet.

But the Home Depot bracket... that's ingenious. Might have to do that. How long of a bolt do you need?

I have never had a problem. Cops have never said anything to me about not having a front plate.

I've been hassled twice. Once while I was sitting in a parking lot talking to a fellow Z owner. Cop came into the lot so we started to leave, he pulled me over to give me a warning about the plate and a lecture about being in the parking lot.

The second time I was driving up I-95 with the cruise control on. Cop pulled me over specifically for not having the plate and gave me a $25 ticket.

Its a 5/8 x 2" bolt. It wont thread the whole way through but it will enough to stay on securely.

I took the cheap route...I bought a few plastic ties and just tied the plate to my grille. As ugly as it might be to have a front plate, I don't want to get hassled by cops any more than I already do.

I avoid staties at all cost, they're the ones most likely to pull you over for smallest things.

I want to say there is a statute that says if your car does not come from the factory with a bumber mount you dont have to run a plate in the front. A friend thats a legal secretary she found it in a few cases she was workin on.

I also have mine in the front windshield and having been stopped by State Troopers, he didnt say anything. Besides the only real reason that use the front plate is to have a good target for the laser. Especially on cars like ours where everything is so round. A dark color, no plate, and eyelids, there is hardly anything for them to get a good read off of.
