$150 to $200 a day is the norm. Anything more than that I won't do cause it is just too expensive for me. With an HPDE you will normally get 4 or 5 sessions each lasting 20 to 30 minutes and you can go well over 100 mph depending on the track. Compare that to an autocross event which you may get 4 runs, each lasting less than 2 minutes for $40+ a day and if you're lucky to have a large parking lot may break 50mph. Autocross schools are still $250+ for a single day and many autocrossers will encourage you to take at least one.

HPDE seems like the better value to me.

A tad steep imo, are there any cheaper beggineer type events? Once I get some sways and brakes this spring, I wouldn't mind going to one of these.
$200 plus for HPDE at Summit Point is not chump change. but consider that novice drivers begin with an instructor. I have driven both the Jefferson and Shenandoah circuits several times improving my skills each time. The smartest $200 investment that I have made.

It's better to go when your car is still stock. That way you learn what the car is really doing before you go and potentially mess it up by adding swaybars and realize that you just made the handling worse. I think you will find the stock suspension does quite well. Many people will tell you that the street is not like the track. Lots of people think they need this and that for their car, then they go to the track and realize they don't. Take it as a suggestion- $350 for 2 days at the track will get you more than $350 in swaybars ever will.

Good brake pads on the other hand are always a good idea.

And I can't stress this enough. An HPDE is not a race.

the NASA events are usually 2-day events which are about $320 for the entire weekend.. it's a better bargain..

I also instruct for NASA events, (GetFast used to as well, but he's moving to Cali). If you all need to know more, you can also PM me.

Compared to a full out track driving school like Bondurant and Skip Barber where you use their cars, those events are $1500 for the day or $2000 for 2-day event.. the intermediate class is $3500 for 2-day event and when you get to intermediate level, you ARE responsible for the damages of the car that you drive.

So yes, $150 to $350 is definitely easier on the wallet.

I agree on the sticky.. I'll also post up Ferrari / Lamborghini of Washingtons schedule on this thread. (nothing like whipping up on exotic a$$)

(mostly because some of the owners don't push thier cars )

That and just HEARING these cars going down the strait after 10 makes my pants sticky.

$200-400 really isn't all that much in the grand scheme of things... you money invested in HPDEs will yield much more results out of your car than any other modification. Work on modifying the driver before you modify the car.

NASA is a good program to start with - provides a lot of exposure to club racing and an organized HPDE environment. My only complaint is that their weekends are very busy and I think you can get more track time with some other organizations.

I've instructed with CarGuys, Audi Club, Ferrari Club, MazdaDrivers, Triangle Z Club, Tracquest/Chin, and NASA (Mid-Atlantic, SE, and OH/IN). Comments on all:

CarGuys - expensive but tons of track time (5 hours), less traffic, and marque cars. The guy who runs CarGuys is a douche, but there are a lot of great instructors and students there.

Audi Club - decent drivers ed, avg track time, fairly organized

Ferrari Club - exclusive and not the best to run with unless you have an exotic

MazdaDrivers - great DE, decent amount of track time, good instructors, students. Great track dates and courses (VIR Grand East and VIR Full). Highly recommended!

Triangle Z Club - great DE, decent amount of track time, good instructors, students, very organized. Bonus on time trials too! Organizers are on this board - highly recommended!

TracQuest / Chin Motorsports - marque of all DEs, fast cars, great program, TONS of track time (6+ hours), good instructors, and fantastic banquet afterwards. More upscale environment with an upscale price. Also fantastic selection of tracks on their schedule.

NASA - Awesome classroom, great DE, exposure to club racing. MA is much more organized than the SE and OH/IN regions.

I think you have me confused with another "Jon" (GetFast), and he's from Richmond - he was a BMW guy anyways last time I spoke and he does more AutoX stuff...
