Default Relocating to DC, where should I live?

There's a good possibility I'm going to take a sales job in DC. Where would you guys suggest getting a place. Arlington, Silver Springs? If you guys know or do real estate in the area let me know. I posted the same question in the North East but I think Mid-Atlantic is the region. Thanks alot guys.

Well Arlington is off the hook for night life, and the prices are not as bad as Reston, Alexandria or DC. I live in Falls Church, VA off of Route 7 aka King Street aka Leesburg Pike. The place we bought our condo (which is for sale, moving to Richmond) is called Savoy Park. If I could do it again, I would like in this zip 22041 because everywhere leaving here is against traffic for the most part. I get to DC in like 15 minutes (I leave at 630)....takes about 45-60 if I leave after 730-900am.....good luck. Shoot me a PM if you would like a local guide of whats good or bad places to live.

If nightlife is a priority...

I would live in Ballston area. It's in the middle of the Arlington corridor, yet you can still get into the city with a short metro ride. You also have decent access to the beltway for jaunts outside the city. It's a major hub for young people.

There are way too many factors that you need to include before you get a more viable suggestion. Are you coming alone? Married? With kids? What is your budget per month? Where is your work located? What are your work hours? And what's your pain threshold for traffic?

I live down in Alexandria. Pay the extra $$$ and live near a metro if you are going to work in the city. You again havent said exactly where you are going to work, as silly as it sounds that makes a huge difference (i.e WW bridge)

Move to another state and get another job... The DC area's cool, but the traffic and cost of living suck taint juice...

I love DC - 10x better than most cities in the country. Every place has their downside (yes, even San Diego ), but overall, the DC area is a great place. Lots of history, nightlife, best school systems in the country, plenty of jobs, and the arguably the largest concentration of intellectuals in the world. Sure, it's expensive, traffic sucks, the cops are overzealous, and the humidity is overwhelming, but such are the flip side to any coin. Having grown up there and spending most of my life there, there are a lot of places in the DC area that would spoil the experience - I'd argue that living in MD is probably the number one culprit of that.

Fairfax, Loudoun, and Montgomery County school system bad? You are mistaken... PG and the District's schools, yes, awful.
