"Corey is a realy nice young man"...until they learn I am dating their daughter
, be it White, Koren, Japanese, Portugese, Latin, German, Italian and especially Middle-Eastern, so it goes both ways man.
After 911 the Middle Eastern-Americans (a name soon to come like they gave us Afro-Americans), felt the heat too.
Now you are feeling the heat. Sucks, but you will live.
It sucks bigtime bro, but welcome to the club! My wife is white and has been to Africa more than probably 95% of most African-Americans..yet the Sister's and a some White people, think we shouldnt be together.
She has actually saved many kids lives, be it black or not....who can say that in this world today!? Its 2007, I build, audit and secure IT Networks not Pyramids, for a living!
Freedom has its price which means people can look at you and us anyway they like to.
I will give you this advice....its your responce that either confirms or eliminates their stereotypes. If you frown up and make a face, I am sure that image is of one related to their thoughts...just smile and be yourself. Try not to over react, try not to assume they are thinking negative thoughts.... Good luck my friend...I will keep you in my prays for the day/week.

true true
this reminds me of how ridiculous it is in so many posts where I see people telling other groups to 'grow up' and 'get over it' whenever racism is mentioned, and yet incidents like this show how close it is to the surface all the time.

Hey maybe if you're lucky then after years of oppression you can ask for reperations like black people do. Obviously there is going to be a backlashing at asians. Look what happened with Arabs and illegal immigrants when white people didn't like the situations that involved them.

I grew up having best friends of all ethnic, racial, social, economic, religious, and education backgrounds. If you saw us, we truly looked like the UN - Korean, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Italian, Pakistani, Iranian, Indian, Hispanic-American, Africa-American, Caucasian-American of all mixes, Jews, Buddhist, Christians, Muslims, Hindus. It is why I get along with everyone and do not fear anyone.
While in college at UMCP, some Viets asked why I do not hang with them. I replied that I like to hang with all groups. Others asked why I had friends in and hung out with members of the Black Student Union, I replied "why not?". Some recruited me to pledge their fraternities, I replied "I like to party with all fraternities and sororities", especially the sororities
. I did not belong to any one group yet belonged to all groups.
My best friend and I went down to Pensacola, FL to scope out places for him while he was in flight school. Here are two guys not in uniform but with very clean cut military looks. We walked into a McDonald's, in FL's panhandle, and literally saw everyone's head turned. They continued to stare the entire time we ordered, ate, and left. You stand out bad when it is a couple of Pakistani and Vietnamese guys in a sea of white faces. It did not bother us, was kinda fun and funny.
I still get a few funny faces when I'm out with my wife, a strawberry blonde, and kids. The faces are coming from both whites and asians, among others. They are more curiosity these days - we are a cute couple with adorable boys
. Living in the MD/DC/VA area, the diversity has been good. We see more and more interracial marriages and relationships than ever. Many of my best friends are in interracial marriages and relationships. For rare really odd looks, I just smile and acknowledge it cordially.
People hate out of fear. Fear is natural but should not define you. Some say, "This is America. You should eat hot dogs and hamburgers." I love Pho, kimchee, pad thai, and just about all ethnic foods way too much to just live on hot dogs and hamburgers.
People forget that this country was built on the backs of immigrants. Many of us are mutts. Our future generations will likely be mutts. Everyone can still be very proud of their heritage and history. Just do not let that pride become exclusionary and turn into hate. They sometimes go hand-in-hand.
Peace out there to all brothers and sisters.

I kid you not, I saw at least 30 Air Force guys get kicked out for dating underaged women over the 3 years I was there. Legal age in NM is 16....legal in the AF is 18... Being 17 when I got there (1995)...meant that I had to date women older than me or go to jail. Which didnt seem fair to me and apparently many others.
Back to the topic...it is Forums like this, the military, and metropolitan cities like DC that will aid in ending racism. My wife (white as snow) is from Richmond, we are planning to move back there over the summer. I must admit that I have my reservations, because I am African American, 30 years old and make DOG_ON_GOOD money! I know with the 05G, 07Jetta GLI, 78CJ5, and 77 Buick...along with building (from scratch) our own house (man we are blessed and should be thankful) we will get alot of looks, hatred, and jealously especially because I look 18. (God has blessed me with great skin..hehehe..). But I came from the Ghetto if East St.Louis, IL. Mom was single parent with two boys....I deserve every penny I spend, I mean earn...lol.
So although DC has its issues, there are places that are still flying confederate flags like their lives depend on it. I think you can be proud of your history/culture and not racist. Not everyone who has a confederate flag is a hilly billy, or uneducated...I just personally havent met too many....lol. See...even my jokes can be considered being racial or racist.
I love you guys and always go out of my way to help. Just ask WTFnoTurbo, Noah, and S1AMESE... Maybe we should start a thread to show how diverse this forum truely is...we could call it the MIXING BOWL and we could post or nationalities and cultural influences? Just a geeky IT thought. lol. It funny that alot of people dont realize that they have racial tendencies..like sayine white poeple cant dance, blacks like chicken, or mexican like glittered cars...yes they all hold true to a certain extent, but what white person doesnt like chicken? what black female doesnt like glitter? and I have seen some mexicans ( I prefer to say hispanics) would could not dance. Its all relative...to your specific life experiences.
Let me know about posting a topic that maybe we can get the moderators to "STICKY" it so we can all ask questions and eduacte ourselves about other cultures?
