Default used car/track car suggestions

hey guys I'm looking for a car to track and beat on a bit. Before anyone says that is what the Z is for, with being on a stock motor with the S/C I don't really want to track it/beat on it real hard. I was thinking of a used Porsche 944 (Turbo if I can find one pretty cheap) or a second gen RX7, fix anything that is wrong with it stripping it and put in a cage, single race bucket, suspension, breaks, and later on upgrade the power and it doesn't have to be legal for the street.. Some may suggest a Miata, but I'm a big guy and that just isn't going to happen lol. Any suggestions as to other cars and/or places to find good deals on these cars would be appreciated. BTW this will be my first season of really tracking a car so I realize that I don't need a 500whp car right off the bat. Thanks guys.

240. Great weight balance, very straightforward power plant, and loads of aftermarket parts for cheap.

Miata, RX-7, Civic...they seem to have quite the abundance of guys out there tracking these models that can share secrets and trade parts, etc

I'm in the same boat but have set a much lower budget than you based on the cars you've listed. Thinking of an EG Civic becuase of the abundance of parts and solid community. But up here in BC there is a great AE86 following and lots of great cars around. Older, but around the same price range given the Initial D tax.

Title would be nice, but I guess as a track car it's not really necessary. How much and can you post up some pics?

Thinking about this one and just picking up a tranny from a junkyard or something. The labor of putting the new tranny in wouldn't be unexpected since I was planning on replacing the clutch/flywheel before tracking it anyways. Another question...What is the engine code for an early 91 to 93 240sx? A lot of the parts that I am seeing available for these 240s are with an SR20 swap which I may do in the future but not right away.
