I destroyed mine too when I was taking it out. But it's an OEM shift ****... you can probably buy a good one off someone(if somehow you still want to have one in possession) for like $10 - $15.

Yeah the threads were an initial problem with m and F:Tuned to get the OEM **** of as well. The shifter has two parts, and the bottom one in this case was the problem. It was so stripped that it just kept spinning on the tranny shaft which it attaches to. I think im going to post some pics of my new interior now..

LOL... Reminds me of when we swapped out Corey's ****. Ended up having to saw it off with a dremel blade . Mine came right off with a little pressure. Go figure.

lol, +1. After reading all the DIY installs, i prepped with a bunch of clamps, pliers, and towels. all it took was a soft twist to come off...

Are you securing the shifter rod from the bottom under the console trim This is most important. If you don't you can bend the rod when you try to unscrew the old shift ****. It also gives you more leverage in loosening the old ****.

atleast a certain someone whose name will go annonymous (but does drive a Z) didnt get rediculously drunk, get in a fight with the owner of the house your all chillin at and proceed to get himself kicked out only to have me wake up in the morning to see the door on my Z opening up and someone getting out!!! I had accidently left the doors unlocked and he had slept in my car all night and was spinning my shift **** around in circles when i walked out. I was SO PISSED! I am driving home later that day and my shifter sounded like a baby rattle! he had broken something inside which i finally took it off and a spacer had broken off the inside so i just took it out and tightened my shifter back down. Long story short; NEVER leave your car unlocked especially at a party b/c some drunk a$$ is going to find his way inside and camp out for the night and break $HIT! haha

mine was a pita as well. Had the oem leather layer come off and then i took the soft white rubber off as well. What was left was a metal ball with two flat sides. I put a wrench on that and one on the shaft and twisted and it came off. A ton of orangish loctite on it.

What i dont get, is the transmission was supposed to have been replaced. but the **** was still on hard as hell with loctite.

You don't have to remove the shifter **** to remove the transmission.
