noone but me will be payin for this ring, and it sure as hell wont go past 1.1 karats... my gf is too clueless to see/feel/notice the difference, so i could get a CZ and probably get away with it until someone comes along and checks it out lol

It's all about the cut and color. If you have a diamond that has a good cut it will "look" bigger than it actually is. As for color I wouldn't look for anything less the H in color. Anything more than that will look dull and have a yellow tint to it.

Clarity depends on how picky you are. If you don't mind a few tiny inclusions (you basically can only see them if you hold them up to the light an inch or so away from your eye) you'll be able to get a bigger diamond.

Check out may jewelers in Tysons. I got an awesome deal on a 1.2 kt princess cut diamond with a F color (basically colorless). When my wife got it appraised, it was almost worth twice as much then what I paid.
