Default Winter Parking/Storage Questions

I am going to buy a beater car here soon, and have questions about storing or parking the Z over the winter. Hopefully I will have a garage spot soon so won't have to worry about parking outside, but since nothing is 100%, I am planning on parking outside for the snowy months My other option, though I am sure it won't work out, is parking the Z in my work's garage over the winter. Not sure how security would feel about that though.

So, my plan is to just buy a car cover+lock and park either on the street, or convince my landlord to let me hog a spot all winter. I'd rather not park on the street due to the risk of having the car hit by the snow plow or someone sliding in to me. But since I have 3 other room mates, the street is probably where I will end up.

Do you think the covered Z will be ok on the street over the winter? I live in Burke, which is a semi-decent area, so hopefully some asshat won't mess with the car just because it is covered... you know, the types that mess with someone's possessions just because they have something nice?

What should I do? Anyone have any method I haven't thought of yet?

Car covers work just as well. One of my buddies did this and his car is in showroom condition still.

I was seriously considering this too! It'd be cool to have a heated/cooled place to keep it, could go wax her over the winter

Using the car cover would work for me except I don't have a good spot to park. The street seems to risky to me to be leaving the car for long periods unattended... I guess Im being too ****?

i agree, its would be alot safer in a place no one can access than on the street and besides theres always a chance of hit and run.

Exactly what I was thinking; someone sliding into the car or the snowplow scraping it. I can't leave anything to chance The Z measures 14ft by 6 ft I was surprised! So I am thinking a 10' x 15' should be just right.

I rented a 10X20 place from November to this past june. 10X15 IMO is pushing it.

I did the "car cover" thing at first. It wasn't even parked on the street. It was parked in a "low traffic" area in a Nice community. Needless to say it was effed with 3 times. The first two were people pulling the back of the cover off trying to find out what kind of car it was. The last straw though was some young hoodlums burning a few half dollar size holes in my cover. Luckily they didn't do any damage to my roadster.

The car cover also attracted a few stray cats using it as a scratching pole.

I now have it in garage several miles from my condo with my own remote (Free of charge, thanks to a friend).

i rent a storage unit too right by my apt. My roomate had his rims stolen off of his solara....i can only imagine the field day they would have with my car! I pay 145 a month for it, but it is worth every penny. get 10x20, it is MUCH easier and you won't have to worry about fitting your car in, the extra 5 is needed. you can always hop around to places doing 'get the first month's rent free'...i plan on doing this after the next month because i have 3 around me. mine also has me set up for 24 hour access so i can pull it out for late night joy rides. storage unit FTW!

If you are afraid of parking it outside, invest in a small garage complex.
In the end, worth the money if, god forbid, anything happens to your Z.

Ask around, see if friends of friends have nice garages and perhaps some space for storage.
