Default REALLY BUMMED!! Z Broke Down on The Way Home From The Mega Meet... :(

just to warn you this is kinda long but I'm really bummed right now so i figured i would vent my frutrations on the forum! The Mega Meet was fun, hung out with some friends and made some new ones. I decided to roll out around 3:30 b/c i had been there since 9:30ish and was def. feeling sun poisoning/hunger coming on. got out of the meet alright, turned left on 234 from dumfries and got to the first traffic light which was red, shifted to neutral, came to a stop, went to put it in gear when the light turned green and NOTHING THERE! i was literally taking my shifter and going around in a complete 360 and no gears. Immediately I called AAA and said i need a tow; mind you, at this time i had a line of cars behind me and could'nt move!never thought these words would come out of my mouth but: luckily a cop was driving by at this time and pulled in right behind me with his lights on and called for more cops to come and push me off to the side of the road. (now you know why i hope this will never be repeated from my mouth! haha) once all traffic was cleared/stopped and i was on the shoulder i was left alone till the first tow truck driver came which took about a half hour to get there. immediately this hill billy/redneck a$$ driver says he won't tow me b/c it has "altered suspension and front bumper". I called AAA and told them that all I have is a front lip and am sitting on stock suspension so what is the problem?! they threw me in a loop and were saying how AAA doesnt cover cars with "altered equipment." a few customer service representatives and a splitting headache later i was given 2 options...1)take the front bumper completely off the car or 2)sign a wavor that states if there is ANY damage during towing it is not covered by them. being the smart a$$ that i am, i say "so if the car falls off the truck, it isn't covered by you?!" and she actually said idk about that far but that is correct! F- that this bumper is coming off then was all i could think to say! I had some tools in my car and a friend of mine who lives in Manasses who saw me stranded ran home and got me a 10mm ratchet and 10 min. later i am sitting on the side of the road with my bumper in the grass next to me waiting on yet another wrecker driver to come get me. 2 hours and a 7-11 slurpie later (driver stopped to get gas and i just could'nt resist! lol) I am at the nissan dealership dropping my car off to have it checked out on monday. basically it was an extremely long day and i'm really stressing out right now and so any insight/inspiring words will not go unappreciated! Thanks!

-Brian

that really sucks bro...it was nice to meet you though and the car was looking good. AAA sounds like BS and now I'm wondering if Nissan would honor their roadside assistance thing I have. Hope everything works out well.

it was good meeting you too bro! your Z was real clean, love the wide body and custom wheels! hopefully this whole thing will pan out b/c i'm stressin hardcore over here right now! i suggest that anyone with any kind of modded front bumper keep a philips head screw driver and a 10mm socket and ratchet in their car at all times just incase! you might want to check up on the nissan road side assistance b/c i almost canceled my membership with AAA today even though it ended up paying for itself in the end(premium membership allows up to 100 miles per claim x8 claims/year for around $100 i believe.) my total would have been $144 to go from manasses to tysons corner.

AAA is a total joke, never again will I use them.

In Maryland something like 1 in 6 tow truck companies will honer AAA. I sat on the road for almost 3 hours waiting for a AAA willing tow truck. THREE @#$$ING HOURS, tow truck after tow truck stopped, offered to help, turned me down on AAA and drove off.

Here's a better option, ask your insurance company for roadside, I pay $2.20 every 6 months with state farm. yes two dollars and twenty cents.

I can have anyone tow my car, even a friend, pay the bill, then take a copy of the bill to my agent and they will write a check to me. DONE!

Last time I was towed (turbo civic) I had to remove the front bumper. no way was the car making it up the back of that flat bed with it still in place.

Well I love AAA, I broke down twice and twice I was in Richmond, Two different cars, they towed my *** to DC for free. That is sweet. I would call and make a complaint to AAA Corporate, but do your homework first. document the vehicle specs of your car vs a NISMO sport..(its lower...lol). Send that into them and tell them that your car is not altered. Its a dealer supplied part. (they dont know that your bumper isnt made by NISMO). That way A. You dont have an altered car and B, you ride height is factory.

my two cents.

First place you went wrong was telling them you changed something. Now that, that is documented, you need to tell them that the alteration was a manufacture's option.

I would never leave myself or wife without AAA. They will even tow someone that I am ridding with or unlock the door if lock thier keys in the car, even if its not my whip.

I love em. VA AAA FTW!

ohh yeah I saw that yellow Z with those sick rims on it....True Nissan Fans see everything...like the Skyline, the two 240, and that Maxima that was a late model 80's ride.lol

I didn't tell them that i had any alterations, the first tow truck driver called in and said that it was altered so he would'nt do it and i had to plea my case to them that it was indeed NOT altered suspension and that the front bumper sits about 1/4" lower than stock. I got a direct line to the tow truck driver incase anything ever happens again I can have someone that A) honors AAA and B) respects my car (helped me set the bumper back on for the ride to the dealership as well as take it back off when we got there so that i don't scrape the paint up)

your car is really clean looking! I saw a thread of someone asking whose it was a little while back and then actually seeing it in person; the pictures dont do it justice!

I am going to need to look into that , i just don't want them to pull some "it was out of network b/s on me or something and i get stuck with a $500 tow bill or something.

only problem i have is that i don't have state farm...you probably go through riley's who actually take care of the cars and have boards to pull lowered cars up on their flat beds w/o damaging them. I just got done working on a 350z that had an ings front bumper and was lowered and watched them pull it off the truck without scraping the front at all.
