Race Shifting?
Whats up everybody!
I am in the Prince Georges County area ,and Im trying to learn how to shift without loosing power between gears. If anybodys willing to show me how, let me know. I want to take my car to Capitol Raceway on Friday to time it, but i know i'll kill my time with poor shifting! Anyone willing to help, hit me up!

I suppose that you could sit in the passenger seat with an experienced racer driving and watch. Not sure how helpful that will be. You will be able to see shifting, but it will not explain what is going on.
Just think of the street shift:
let of the gas
clutch fully depressed
shift
throttle.
My racing technique is simuliar to above, but everything is modified a bit. I can pull the lever out of gear without fully depressing the clutch. The time between no throttle and throttle is barely recognisable.
Others will have different techniques. So will you.
You will not get the best out of your car in one day or a month or one season. It took me 4 years to get to 13.33 seconds. Maybe I’m a little slow on the learning curve. So get out there and practice. Its your car. Be safe and have fun.

I agree with David... it's a bit late to start racing this season.
Alberto or David are some of your best choices to learn. They both do PLENTY of racing. Matter of fact, a lot of people in the Mid-A know what they're doing (like Charles and a few others). You're in good hands to get help tracking your car there.
If I were you, find someone with a beater stick shift. In order to get your shifting quick, you need to be able to do it in this order -
Begin pulling shifter out of current gear (you can o this before touching the clutch)
By the time the shifter gets into neutral, you need to have the clutch depressed at least 3/4
Continue shifting until you hit your gear
Release clutch
Notice how I never said release throttle. This needs to be done stupid quick. Also, the entire shifting process needs to be one fluid motion. Don't stop at any point. The only reason it seems like that is because the steps are broken down. NOTE: This is how I used to do before modding my ECU, and it worked great. Other people have their methods also, which work great for them. You need to practice and find out what works best for you and doesn't break your car (unless, like Berto, you murder parts for fun).
The above is one reason I love my Evo... our stock ECUs are the absolute ****. I have mine modded for NLTS (no lift to shift). At WOT if I depress the clutch my RPMs drop to ~5700 and hold until I release the pedal... it's ****ing awesome (Bert, I'ma have to show you a vid of this when I get home... does the FCON do it?). Holds most of my boost, and is very drivetrain-friendly.

Man i really appreciate you alls feedback and tips i just want to hang with the big boys when i do go out there but im gonna see what i could do at the track and if its not that good ill just keep trying.I wish i could watch someone but the only person i ride with on a regular basis has an auto 350z.Maybe ill see one of you guys at a function or the track and i can get some more pointers and again thanks.
The tips posted here are more than enough to get you going. Practice X 1000 will get you there. Be critical of yourself and after shifting, think how could you make it that much better?
Even if we were to show you today, youd never be "ready" for this Friday, the difference bewteen good and excellent in drag racing is huge, it takes time to develop-just so you know. If I were you Id get a basleine before the season is out, work on it through winter and hit the tracks when they open. Good luck, watch the vids in my sig to get an idea from in car videos...
