Default Slots in MD, yes or no?? Thoughts....

With the state of MD gearing up on taxes (%5 to %6 sales tax, ciggarettes, alcohol) do you guys think slots would help alliveate the need for this?? I believe it would also help with the education fund of MD. Profits could also be used for government agencies like police, fire & rescue departments to help fund new equipment and to refurbish barricks and stations.

Any thoughts on this? do you guys think slots belong in MD or that there may be some negative sides to this?

Share positive and negatives...

-Ryan

Edit: I didn't even mention whats going to happen to property taxes, goodluck homeowners!

Yes 100% agree slots need to be brought into Maryland. Charlestown horses & slots revenue is 70% from montgomery county alone. All that money needs to stay in the state, governer is pushing for this to be passed and proposes to open up new schools, etc.

I am on the fence about the whole slot issue. I am wondering what it will do to the crime rate here...I am also unsure the profit from it will actually go to all the good causes that the OP mentioned...

but on the other hand I also agree the $$$ people spend out of state on these slots should stay in MD... I see both good and bad to it

Kirk's right. **** the sales tax increase. If these *******s can't figure out how to spend within a budget, we need to find new *******s to put in office.

I'd rather have slots at Pimlico then pay extra money everytime I by something.

No. I don't think anyone political came right out and said that. Its obvious to me though. These greedy f*cks are going after anything that'll line their pockets.

Slots would give Maryland a nice cash flow. Look at Nevada!

Doesn't matter to me. I think slots are boring, and don't see myself playing them.

Besides Democrats have not offered a “one or the other” plan. Either slots or taxes. Democrats will raise taxes regardless.

Funny, when Ehrlich tried for slots, wasn't it shot down by the democrats? Now that there is one in office it's the best idea ever. Go figure

Maybe I'm mistaken, but that sounds about right

There is a committee dedicated purely to "against slots in MD", it is obvious BS! I did a lot of research recently about this for my economics class and many of the horse tracks, etc. are getting ready to up and leave Maryland because lack of income. Everyone goes to Charlestown for slots and then watches horses. Crime rate is an understandable issue but everytime I go to Charlestown I see 95% old people pissing away retirement money b/c they planned poorly. Anyways like I said earlier 70 or so percent of their income at Charlestown is Montgomery county ALONE. The state is not planning on using the money to build a **** shop, it is for good causes such as education, libraries, etc. The state let alone country is in dire need of money. It is absolutely ridiculous!

Yea its not one or the other it is BOTH. I still can't believe that the tax increases are going to go through with 90% of the constituency of these ars hats calling and emailing telling them NO.

I guess that they are counting on us not remembering in 3 years when the next election comes up.

If you really want to know how it is going down go here... http://www.omalleywatch.com/

oh by the way we just got pwned... we get taxes and slots...

Not quite sure how I feel about slots (still thinking about it). What I do know is the Delegates and Senators who vote for it need to be willing to put slots/casinos in their own backyards. I don't want to see officials from Howard county (for example) crafting legislation for slots in Prince George's.

Well, I just booked a 5 day trip to Vegas in March $575 including room and flight. I also plan on gambling maybe $2500... anddddd I'm going with 10 people

math:

$575 x 10 ppl = $5750
$2500 spending cash x 10 ppl = $25,000 on one five day trip

grand total approx. $30,750

Lets go MD get it together!!

And then they are going to increase the taxes on businesses (proposed 5% hike if I remember correctly) and they even talked about taxing services (ie. labor on getting our cars upgraded). Don't see how this is going to help the economy as most people are strapped as it is.

Everyone has their hobby of choice - legal, illegal, or otherwise. If MD does not have slots those residents who choose to make slots their hobby will spend their $$$ in states who do. I think this provides the reasoning for slots in MD to make sense.

My .02 ... what about better budgeting? Let MD's residence keep their hard earned money so they can spend it on what they want. In turn spurring the local economy (which gets taxed again anyway) and raising MD's standard of living - not standard of taxation.
