Default FI in VA???

I know there are quite a few of you in the "ye ole Commonwealth" that are running some sort of FI. I'm currently on the fence between turbo/supercharging the Z and I wanted to see if anyone was willing to give me an hour's worth of their time so that I may get a hands on experience with either kit and form my own opinion. I figured this would be the better option as opposed to creating another one of those "Which is Better: Turbo or Supercharger" threads that frequent our forums.

I'm really just looking for a ride to , within reasonfeel power delivery and pick your brain in a brief q&a session. Right now I'm leaning towards the Vortech kit, but seriously considering the GReddy twins. It would be helpful if the car is around 400whp, but I guess I'll take what I can get.

If anyone is willing, please PM me, I'll shoot you my number and we'll go from there. I'm willing to drive to meet you so that you don't spend your day traveling.

Thanks,

Chris

I've got a turbo VQ but not a Z or G. I've ridden in my buddys supercharged G and I'd have to say the turbo is much more of a beast than the supercharger. I have the Altima kit by Speed Force Racing( only car on the east coast as of now) and their build quality is amazing. I'm pushing just shy of 400 with their kit and brian crower cams/springs/retainers at only 8 psi, and all with a full built bulletproof automatic transmission(not because I'm a puss, but because I'm a disabled veteran amputee).

Is budget part of the equation? If you have the money: Turbo! =)

Honestly if you do not go built motor I would go supercharger, more reliable and not much difference. I would give you a ride but you are extremely far and my current tune is not the best due to belt slippage.

the stock block can hold 400whp easy.......so i see no problem with not running a stok block. He just needs to get it tuned by some one good and not a shitty tuner

This wasn't meant to become a pissing match on which setup would reign supreme. I'm trying to avoid that situation, and experience each, so that I may form my opinion on which is better suited to my driving style.

Money is an issue, but finding the best fit is what's most important. I could save the extra money for a good set of twins, but only if it feels like it's the better fit. My power goals are pretty low <350-400whp> which is attainable on the vortech at relatively low boost (aswell on the GReddy twins), and there are a few guys making solid numbers beyond 400whp. I keep seeing these Vortech kits popping up for $3500, and while I typically wouldn't go used, it's tempting. I'd also put more stock in a used supercharger than a turbo system; even though vortech has it's share of issues.

I've been lurking for a long time in the FI forums, and would like to think I know the pros/cons of each setup, at least based on the reviews/specs. At this point I'm not willing to tear down the motor for a full build, and why should I with such low power expectations? If for some reason I'm not happy with that power down the road I will consider other options and possibly building a motor, so going from supercharger->Turbocharger(s) down the road doesn't bother me. Quite frankly I'll probably spend the following year or two trying to get the car up to par with it's new found power.

I like to have balance in my cars, and a 600whp car (while respecatble in it's own right) doesn't tickle my fancy. I usually don't mind the drive, and I know a couple pretty good routes to get me into Maryland. So don't be afraid to shoot me a PM, I'll make the drive up...or down.

Thanks.

Good idea you have. You can read for days and learn, but taking a ride in a comparable S/C and St/TT set-up would be wise. I can tell you right now though, the TQ of the turbo kits will be addicting and feel MUCH stronger from the passenger seat than any Centrifigul S/C will provide. Ive driven Stillen set-ups, been in ATI set-ups, driven Greddy, owned Turbonetics, driven JWT 700, JWT 850, and nothing impresses me like the twins. For what its worth, save some more $$$ now and go TT so you have room to build and move up in power. Speed is an addiction feed it now or pay more to redo things later!

Good luck getting rides.

+1

I'm switching from Centrifugal S/C to twin turbos and it is very costly. If only I had gone TT from the start.

Thanks Bert, I've owned a couple not so stock turbo cars in my time, I know how addicting they are, the rush of power that they produce is thrilling to say the least. I love the charactoristics of the turbo setups, but I've never experienced a supercharged car, I suppose its the road less traveled, I'm just curious I suppose.

I'm pretty impressed with the VQ's current powerband, and while it's powerful everywhere it leaves me wanting more. Hopefully I can score a ride in a supercharged car before I pull the trigger on a decision.

More TQ instantly at peak, but it drops WAY more at redline as opposed to a turbo, makes for a nasty instant TQ hit though and launching on slicks is awesome on N20.

Any dyno numbers/track times from the bottle? How are you tuning it? 1 yr is good, how much do you spray?
