Default Rice Mod: Butcher your Headlights... for the heck of it! Abui01 Style!

Before I begin, I must give credit where it's due: Donations courtesy of bb1413.

So I received his "holy headlights" in sub-par shape... what am I going to do with this sucker? ...Butcher it! That's right, tare everything apart and do something crazy + fix a few things up.

bsurdam suggested I turn it into a fishbowl and roll up to a meet and change my plate to Nemo, but I didn't want you all to copy my ingenius idea so I'll skip out on that for now.

We start by dismantling process:

Look at all that condensation!!!

I have no idea what I'm doing guys... really I don't:

Note: If you leave it in there too long, you WILL melt them. I knew when to take them out from the smell

Before:

After: Custom Gloss-Black

Close-up of my "professional" paint job in my "paint-booth"

In all seriousness, please don't try this unless you really know what the crap you're doing... you could potentially really F' up your headlights!!!

Now I gotta wait for 5 days for the paint to fully cure otherwise you get the "toxic-neon-haze" underneath your headlights and you'd be totally unFunction:TUNED.

These babies will be good as new and functioning @ 100% once I'm done! Will update in 5 days!

Should of placed the headlight on a damp/wet piece of cardboard in the over to prevent any meltyness that may occur!

Looks good!

Light output from the Xenon will be the same. He just painted the housing, which leaves the xenon beam virtually unchanged.

Question to you guys since we're talking headlights. I just replaced the front low beams in my beater (97 Corolla) since it was warm this weekend and just happened to think what would I do if I blew out a Z bulb. It says to take the car into the dealer to replace the front headlights should they go out but this seems pretty excessive just for a bulb change. They don't list any instructions as to how to disassemble the fronts to access the bulbs.
Do I actually have to have the dealer replace them or can I do it myself?
I figured I'd ask before anything actually happens.

thks in advance!

take the front tires off, unbolt the shroud in the wheel well, then you can access the back of the headlights and take the bulbs out. Or you can take off the front bumper and then take the whole headlight assembly out and change them that way. those are the two ways I know. I just do the first because it seems easier to me.

also, I would unhook the battery so that you don't get zapped by 20000 volts from the transformer. (i'm paranoid)

Please say that's a joke for asking a noob question! I live in a condo with no covered parking and don't own or know anyone with jackstands to take off the front wheels. There's gotta be a simpler way to change a bulb.
Guess I need to make some friends at the next Z meets in MD.
