There should be a public place to skate in every community that is worried enough to spend $$ on signage, security, and prosecution of skaters bottom line. All the money spent on prevention could provide a legal place to skate.

Hahahah .. a dude is someone that works on a ranch.. LOL.

Cop acted a bit harsh, but.. I'd wonder what was happening BEFORE the film started. All in all .. I think that the cop did OK. I may have the minority opinion.

+1 Skate parks are a wonderful thing and every one of them I have seen has been nothing but positive for the community it feeds.

Agreed. I was really upset when Vans closed down. I was just getting my license around that time. I had to bum rides before, but it was worth it. I miss it!

Insurance would be a hefty premium. Probably not worth it to most communties.

Even having them sign a waiver wouldn't suffice sine most of them are minors.

That cop is an idiot. He sure does not deserve to wear a badge. He is tripping on authority. (oh and his shorts are gay as hell)

Landsdowne (Balto. Md where Buckey Lasek used to skate )was always skate at you own risk, most parks have waivers you need to sign. Under 18 requires parent so on and so forth. If it's all legit, it's no prob. Thats how I grew up and I loved to skate, if my parents had to be there and I wanted to skate ramps inside, oh well... MOM!!! I need a ride!!!!!

$1mil business liability insurance is only a few hundred per year I think... thats what my small business rate was. I'm sure for a park it would be more considering the circumstances. But hell neighborhood associaton fees where I live should more than cover that. There are options out there to help with these issues, but street skating will never die.

DUDE what an *******.

Anybody at the UMCP Obama speech yesterday? I was leaving class just trying to go to my car, one cop said I could cut through the yellow tape since I wasn't waiting in line. Get to the yellow tape go pass it and another cop screams, GET YOUR *** BACK ON THE OTHER SIDE!!! I was like the officer right down there just told me-- he cut me off and said "I'll either beat you or handcuff you."

It wasn't even the yellow tape that said "POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS" it said "CAUTION."

Cops over abuse power in many instances.

Now that is a really good point. However the kids had skateboards so they are automaticly stereotyped as trouble makers. It's really unfortunate.

The kid must have said dude 10 times. It appears to me he was a skate punk. I have nothing against skaters but being too cool to a cop even a dumb cop is a bad idea. This is the same kid that would disrespect a judge in the courtroom. He would spend the rest of the day or week in jail if he acted like that in front of many judges.

The officer was over the top but not to the degree that a crime was committed in my opinion. The kid could have just sucked up his pride like his buddies, said yes sir and went on his way. I blame this on him showing off for his friends and being raised incorrectly.

Those of you that would take out a cop that spoke to your kids like that are the reason, in my opinion, that society is worse off today than it has been in the past. Teach your kids respect for everyone and to let some things just ride without having to force the last word, dudes.

I also agree with phreaktor on this one and I think that’s rare.

No crime was committed? The cop ASSAULTED the kid...Did the kid lay a hand on the officer??? Last time I checked, being called "dude" wasn't justification for striking somebody...

NO cop or Judge is anymore of a man or decent person than anyone else, just because a group of people put them on a pedestal means nothing. People have rights, if you wana say dude to a cop thats your constitutional right as an American citizen period. That cops ignorance and poor attitude as a person interfere with his job as an officer and he should be senteced to work at a skateboard shop for his next career.

and on top of it all the kids are what 13, 14, probably so caught off gaurd by this BS they probably though it wasn't even real.

The cop tells the kid to sit, and the kid tries to get up. Not following the instructions of the officer.

The cop attempted to confiscate the skateboard. The kid held onto the board interfering with a police officer.

The kid keeps calling the cop “Dud.”

Should have tossed his skate boarding punk *** in the harbor.

Anyway, well said-that is what I was thinking. I hate teenage smartasses.

On a lighter note I just had a Pulp Fiction moment. Instead the kid say "dude" a bunch of times ... I was thinking about how Samuel L. line

"what, what, what"

"What ain't no country that I ever heard of."
"Do they speak English in what?"
"English mothaf*cka do you speak it?"
"So what again! ... Say what again, I dare you ... I double dare you muthaf*cka!!"
