Default 2008 Aka Rally!

Come one come all! Its getting to be that time of year again and as Im sure some of you know there are a couple of us that participate in Cross Country Rallies.

Well the dates and routes have been set for this years 2008 AKA rally! So here we GO!

Disclaimer:

IF you're scared of a ticket.....DONT COME! (It does happen )

IF you're scared of breaking something on your car....DONT COME! (this also happens, although there are MANY knowledgable guys with tools who will always offer assistance...unless you're a dik)

IF you can't afford to fix something if it breaks...your choice, but I'd recommend you don't come as you'll probably be stuck in the middle of friggin nowhere and no funds to bail yourself out.

Now for the details....

2008 AKA RALLY!

Entrance Fee:
$3250 per car (driver and co-driver)
-this includes hotels and dinner for 2 for the entire duration of the rally and all associated events (excludes the drinks, thats on you. But I have to say they're ALOT cheaper than here, lol)

DATES:
July 12-19

ROUTE:
Atlanta, Georgia to Salt Lake City, Utah

-Final Event this year is TOP SPEED runs on the Bonneville Salt Flats(sanctioned by the association at the Salt Flats) Beat Brents (Bam Bam) record from last year of 183mph

vids:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKVMGoLf8cQ

Fun Stuff:
CASH prizes for events along the way
Events and evening outings (can't tell you exactly what, but last years events included Kart Racing, ALMS race w/ pit passes, comedy clubs, Salt Flats, Evening galas, etc....strip clubs are extra but we always seem to find one EVERYWHERE we go, lol...OnStar is a wonderful thing. hahaha)

You can have sponsors but they need to be approved by Chris the President and organizer of the Rally. The reason being is that there are certain sponsors for the event who's stickers must be displayed on the vehicle.

It's really not that bad if you split the costs with someone.

You gotta go just once man. It really is a blast and really you can bring ANY car and have fun.

Although once you go the first time...it's kind of addicting I have to say.

I just read a book about rallying called "The Driver". This guy named Alex Roy has done the Gumball like 6 times and has broken the cross country record. It was an awesome book, but I just don't have the money or the time. It would be a great time if you got with a good group of cars, so maybe one of these days, we can get a group of us from the forum to go on one.

The AKA is VERY different from your normal rally such as the gumball. Yes, there is spirited driving but the AKA is more for fun and the comradery (sp?). there is no "First Place" and your mainly driving for bragging rights for who gets to start drinking first. Everyone who usually goes is VERY fun and everyone gets along for the most part. It's NOT your typical gumball, Fireball, Navigator Run. Those are when you need to keep logs (very time consuming) and the competition is cutthroat (just not my style). I like to have more fun than anything and enjoy the trip.

I'd be in, but i think i'd be fired if my job even found out I entered since I am on their car insurance.

They wouldn't appreciate a 155 in a 65...

The infamous M5...that guy is nuts.

I'd love to do it one day, but I'd rather just do the Silver State Classic Challenge for much cheaper No tickets to worry about that way.

You actually don't "have to" speed at all. there was a whole group last year known as "The Speed Limit Crew". They literally went the speed limit the whole time (except on the Salt Flats) b/c a few of them were younger and didn't want any tickets (yeah a little paranoid). It was hilarious b/c they would get side by side doing the speed limit and they rolled into Columbus Ohio with all kinds of traffic backed up and people honking at them. lol Really, if you're smart about it the tickets are minimal and only a few who get a little too crazy get them. Everyone has radios and we keep each other updated doing "smokey alerts" with the truckers. They is ur firendz.

There are times of excitement for sure...there's no doubt about that. A little adrenaline is always good for the soul.

Stock is up to par.

People bring anything. The "newlyweds" brought the 85 Supra (no ac, hahaha). Never broke once. lol and had a top spd of 117 (or something like that). We would draft them and push them along at some points. He had it pegged near the whole way at 6000rpm.

But thats the key. The more mods the more $hit breaks. So just don't break and its all fun.
