It's only illegal if you get caught. You can refuse a police search of your car by simply saying, "I do not consent to any searches." They have no right to search your car for a detector unless it's in plain view (like chilling in your passenger seat or something). If they have a "hunch" that you used one to slow down prior to getting pulled over, a "hunch" does not provide enough evidence to hold up in court. If they forcefully search your vehicle under those circumstances and find your detector, you can tell the judge that your vehicle was searched under no consent and any evidence obtained is now invalid.

+1 I think it was, if im not mistaken, cops can only search you if they have reasonable suspicion. If they only had probable cause then its not a high enough consent to search.

Its been too long, I forgot all about Criminology.

+1 on the V1. I love it, driving to my parents house in NY, NJ uses X-band ALL THE TIME for some reason and it picks that crap up over a mile away, so far that you think it may be a false alarm. They have some really good hiding spots too. It gives you plenty of time to slow down and shove that balloon of heroin up your ***...

Around my area on 95, you know exactly where the cops are gonna be shooting you. So you are dumb if you are from around there and get caught.

I have an Escort in my Z but don't depend fully on them. They do nothing for VASCAR which is nothing more than a computer really; no signal at ALL! You only hope is to see the cop. Then the Laser- you might get lucky and your detector sense some "scatter" for another car being shot. Escorts are sensitive enough to do this. Then regular radar. X band is not used much any more but usually an Escort will see this type way in advance. K band is now more common including intant on as some one said. instant on can be detected if you are lucky and in traffic so the cop shoots someone in front of you. Escorts will see this and give you warning. lastly, there's the lone cop, no equipment that sees you. He can clock you from behind by pacing you or just say you were obviously going over the speed limit. Radar detectors are some protection but even with one, I rarely go more than 5 over in my normal daily travels. Of course I've had my share of tickets in my life and just don't like paying that extra insurance.

I was coming home last night and got stopped for 73 in a 55 in a "Highway Safety Corridor" and got cited for reckless driving. Was I reckless because I was in a highway safety corridor? My girlfriend was in the middle of the panic attack and the cop just said he could call an ambulance since we'd be there for awhile. What kind of points/fines are we looking at here?

yea im fine. It was pretty low speed accident since I was fallin asleep behind the wheel. Man the cop was super nice too. He knew I had a couple of drinks but he let me go and told me to just go home and rest.
I have been getting very lucky with the law enforcement. I realy thought I was going to jail last night because I had some alcohol and fell asleep. Thank God I didnt hit another car and hurt anyone else. I just got few scratches from coming out the car and walkin through a thron bush

Mmm, not really. Last time I had a reckless for changing lines too often I was the most apologetic person ever. I didn't even complaint or said anything to the officer other than: "You are right, I am sorry".

And all I got from the officer were more and more insults.

Was he waiting for me to fight back or what?

I remember:

Me- I am sorry sir.

Officer- WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SAY?

- (repeat numerous times)

Glad you're okay, Jon. Wasn't the rental an 07 Murano or something?

This will do the trick. It is undetectable and very effective at finding police radar. Just mount it on your visor out of view and you will be fine.

Or if you want invisible to the eye as well as the spectr IV.

I know detectors are illegal in VA but then, so is speeding...

Just came back from court for the ticket. Glad im not in jail. judge wanted to put me in jail for 30 days but the cop told him I was alone and not puttin anyone in danger and jail time was unnecessary. However I did end up payin a $500 fine and restricted to drive in the great commonwealth of VA for 90 days
