Default Which shop is best for my twin turbo install? FunctionTuned or AAM or ??

Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the TT setup soon. I may just drop on the JWT 530BB to my stock VQ, but I also may buy a built VQ short block and put the TT kit on that instead.

Right now I'm primarily pricing out Function:Tuned and Altered Atmosphere. Since I'm new to the FI game, I'm really unsure of which vendor to go with. I've heard good things about both. But I've heard some not-so-good things too. And are there any reputable G/Z installer/tuners besides them?

Can you guys help me steer in the right direction? This is going to be very costly undertaking so I want to make sure it gets done right the first time. Help me out with your wisdom!

Thanks,
Brian

1.) Attend local frederick meets
2.) Go built
3.) Check out BOTH shops YOURSELF and go with what you feel best

It's your car go where you feel comfortable

Thanks, I've been attending the DC meets lately, hanging with the National G Club. Some of the guys recommended I come here to see other's experiences with these shops. Especially since so many more of the Z guys are boosted. I've been to both shops a few times already and talked with both owners...I'm really looking for some personal experiences from guys here that had work done.

Let me know what you guys think of each shop and I'll go from there.

If you like your heads put on with a hammer, then AAM is your choice. If you want the project done right, anywhere else is good. If I were you, Function Tuned would be my first stop, but it is your $.

Do some research on AAM and Function Tuned. Don't just search about AAM here... but check the 3000GT forums too. Very interesting.

Dave is a really nice guy and seems to be a great guy to deal with. Plus if you plan on paying someone to install it, why not get a 1 year warranty with it?

Dave will have to give you the details on the warranty. Like Mike (mdracer76) said AAM has been changing engine platforms b/c they've pissed off a lot of people. Mention AAM around the Stealth/3000GT crowd let alone the older VQ crowd and you won't get the greatest reception. Burning bridges is an understatement.

Personally I had my supercharger kit, return fuel system, injectors, etc, etc installed and UTEC tuned at Function Tuned. The car'd been my daily driver and it's very reliable. I've had some very small jobs done at AAM so I won't make a judgment on them.

Yeah I'm really new to FI so I've got lots to learn. Figured Dave's a great resource and wouldn't steer me wrong. I've already gotten quotes from both shops so now it's getting down to the details.

If you got the dough, Forged performance in the ATL. Otherwise Dave@FT for the local win.
Great Guy, great service, and very knowledgeable!
