Default Hit a Squirrel or Swerve to miss it?

Well, coming home from work today, I was behind a brand new 5 series on a back road. A squirrel darted out in from of the guy driving, he quickly swerved. To his right, was an 8 foot drop, a sewage drain type thing. His front wheel went in, and I saw the car going over the edge. He tried bringing it back around, but couldn't do it. The car DROPPED into the drain, and is now standing completely vertical, on the passenger front and rear doors. The guy immediately climbs out, I pulled over to help him. He started laughing (at this point I'm thinking something is wrong with him) so I sat him down and talked to him. Told him I had my refresher training on SABC today so if anything was wrong I could assess it for him. He said he's fine, but his wife is going to kill him!

So the question. Hit a squirrel, or swerve to miss him? Everyday driving, not paying attention, what would you do?

As far as pics goes, I'm heading out to Belle Haven CC to get a job at the pro shop, I'll snap some along the way...

When you swerve and mess up your vehicle, there is no fault but your own. But when you hit the animal, it's covered by insurance.

They got my neighbor twice in a week. I don't leave my car parked outside much anymore.

I dont know it depends on the situation, but generally people swerve away from 8 foot ditches; was there on coming traffic if he were to swerve the other way! I would probably hit the squirrel if there was no oppurtunity for me to avoid it, otherwise I would try my best to avoid it without putting my car and self in serious trouble...but then again, you have all of 1 sec (max) to think about what to do, so thinkin is pointless, its all up to instinct!

Speaking of hitting animals...I hit a bat last night in the Z!

If it comes down to my car or the squirrel, then *** that squirrel. If I can safely avoid it, I will.

Just kill it... The squirrel doesn't even have a name. You eat chicken everyday. There's no difference.
