Default 13 yr old Died racing at Summit point yesterday.

SUMMIT POINT — A New Hampshire teenager involved in a motorcycle crash at Summit Point Raceway died Monday morning after suffering severe head and neck injuries, according to police.

The 13-year-old boy’s name was not released Monday by the Charles Town Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, which responded to the accident at about 10:40 a.m. Monday, according to a news release.

The teen was from Londonderry, N.H., and was driving a motorcycle in a race when a driver in front of him lost control because of mechanical difficulties, according to police.

The victim’s motorcycle struck the back of the first motorcycle, and both drivers were ejected onto the track.

A third motorcycle driver struck the 13-year-old at a high rate of speed, causing “massive head and neck trauma,” according to the news release.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.

Troopers D.R. Underwood, J.M. Bush, J.A. Meeks and M.T. Schul of the State Police responded to the accident, along with emergency medical personnel who were already present.

The raceway has an ambulance on site during all races, according to Jefferson County’s 911 center.

I suspect that driving a motorcycle at Summit Point is less dangerous than on the street.

very sad, but this sort of thing happens. Summit has deaths each year I think. I was in a race where a guy hit a deer with his head and died later on in the hospital.

I do think 13 is a bit young to be on a motorcycle... but then again look at how many 10 year olds are freaking awesome dirt bike riders.

13 isnt to young I mean Kart racers average 10-13 in California I dont know about out here, but I think that 13 is ok I bet that the motorcycles are limited somehow. Anyone know how big the bikes were in his class?

RIP my thoughts and prayers to his family.

were they racing at the summit track, or the kidney track near the back (don't know the name)? surprised it's a full competition race at 13. would think it was more of the 'no passing' dealie, and the accident sounded like a huge cluster****... and possibly the dude that ran over his neck was not obeying flag control...

and if they didn't flag the race correctly... bad news for them. any time someone goes down and is laying on track that is a serious red flag...

13 is nothing, over seas they start out super young, some of the kids on the mini street bikes are out there at like 4-5years old. Another reason why Americans have a hard time in moto GP we all start way late.

However, Americans do start their kids out early in moto x. =)

nothing like a peewee bike race.
