Thumbs up 350evo 3.9 final drive review- Amazing

Got a chance today to swap pumpkins and final drives with jtgli today. Sweet car by the way. And thanks for the sweet deal for the final drive.

Here's a list of my current mods: 06 intake w/K&N drop in, MD plenum spacer, strup headers/testpipes, AAM ypipe, Greddy Single TI-C exhaust, TurboXS Utec, 350evo 3.9 FD *NEW*

On to the driving impressions:

Pros: First thing I noticed is how fast the car goes through each gear. First gear becomes pretty much useless nothing but wheelspin. I actually hit the rev-limiter once, not realizing how quick it gets to redline. The best part about the 3.9fd is any gear you get on it, the car just pulls. Even sixth is sweet no more downshifting to pass anyone. I love the acceleration. This mod, I must say, is the most worthwhile I have done. The car should have come from the factory with at least the 3.9 fd in NA form.

Cons: Going 80mph my rpms in sixth was around 3300-3400. On the two hour drive home the higher rpms in sixth can get noisy. I do have a greddy single with headers and test pipes so it was loud anyway. It was tolerable, but now if I have my windows down I get a headache about and hour and a half into my drive. A drive to ocean city or farther might drive me nuts, but ear plugs should take care of those drive lol j/k. Gas mileage suffered about 2mpg less, I still avg 25mpg highway after the swap so the pros outweigh the cons.

Final Word: If you get the chance to do this mod, don't hesitate if you're NA or supercharged (obviously turbo cars need not apply due to traction limitations). Two Thumbs up From here

Ian

Most definitely Can't wait to see what kind of numbers you'll be able to put down with the greddy kit. Hope you like that engine cover lol.

So 3300 RPM at 80.. what is it usually, 3k?

Also.. Is the Central20 FD generally the same? I'm thinking about picking up that local one FS.

yeah around 3300-3400 rpms speedos aren't totally accurate. Yeah it's basically the same as the central 20 it's just central 20s are usually out of stock. You'll love it, I love powering out of turns amazing feel. The increased noise and slight decrease in gas mileage is worth the exchange for the gears.

Agreed. 4.083 gears were my first mod after much research and by far the best mod/bang for buck.

The car really comes alive afterwards.

Congratulations.

This was the most valuable mod I had in my Z. At the time I got it, I was stock. This surprised a few people.

The sound of the stock exhaust sounds nice to begin with, but after the Central 20 3.9FD, after 5k RPM's it sounds INCREDIBLE. I am almost hesitant to put an after market exhaust on it now!

Thanks.. So the 4.083's are just slightly more agressive than 3.9's but generally same affect?

Yeah I was actually going to get those but I got a sweet deal for the 3.9 gears. I had to put my silencer back into my greddy exhaust because the drone was crazy at 80mph, I'll just take the silencer out at the track.

OK thanks. I'm going to go with the 4.083's since I don't see Boost being in reach for at least a year or two.

I like my 3.9fd too. Its how the car should have come stock.

If I had to do it again I'd probably go with the 4.083, but at the time there weren't a lot of people going that route over the 3.9 yet.

Moron alert !!

JTGLI had agreed to do the pumpkin swap with me way back in May. He canceled 2 different weekends and then I find out he swapped with spnall4 without even calling me, some excuse about his grandmother passing away. I had even purchased the Nismo rear diff cover to go on during the trade.

Be carefull of this guy, his word is no good!
