Default So, I Finally Tried Some Pho Last Night...

After hearing some of you guys go on and on about this stuff, my curiosity finally got the better of me. I stopped off at Pho Saigon 54 in Laurel and got a small Tai Nam Sach (wrote it down so I'd remember). Not really sure what to make of it though. I've never gotten take-out that was "some assembly required" when I got it home.
They gave me some spicy soup, noodles, bunch spices (scallops ) something that looked liked cooked roast beef, a separate bag of...well I'm not sure what they were but it had a plant/branch in it so I decided not to eat that. And then they gave me some raw, uncooked red meat that was still bleeding in the package (definitely didn't eat that ).
Mixed it all together in one big bowl and it was pretty decent for a first attempt. Guess I'll have to try some other spots around MD and see how this place measures up.
You guys have any recommendations???

I'm not sure if this is true but from what I've heard Pho sucks everywhere else except for Los Angeles. Come to LA one day and go to either "Golden Deli" or "Vietnam House" in San Gabriel. Or you could go to any of the 24 hour Pho places in Westminster. Domah (motherfu*ker in Vietnamese)! Pho FTW.

Mazinger Z-Not sure if I will ever visit LA, and if I did, I don't think PHO would be on my top ten things to do while there. Regarding your comment "I've heard Pho sucks everywhere else except for Los Angeles"; I will say this, don't believe everything you hear!

WYZIWYG- I recommend the next time you try PHO, do a little research and eat it at the restaurant. PHO is quite good.
The soup is a mildly spicy broth which they put raw meat in prior to serving it to you. The hot broth cooks the meat, and the condiments, ie basil, bean sprouts, jalapeno peppers you add to your liking. There are other condiments such as hot sauce and hoison sauce for you as well.

pho is just not the same once its put in a plastic container. IMO the best pho is vietnamese homemade pho. a friend of mine owns a pho restaurant in the NOVA area called Pho Royal in sterling. the best Pho in the area IMO.

Dine in man... It's meant for dining in. Your soup gets all cold when you get home. The meat is meant to be half cooked and slowly gets done in your hot boiling soup. Pho Hot in Annandale, VA had been the best experience so far for me in this area.

PHO is the best man!!!...like as stated by Axel--"The soup is a mildly spicy broth which they put raw meat in prior to serving it to you. The hot broth cooks the meat, and the condiments, ie basil, bean sprouts, jalapeno peppers you add to your liking. There are other condiments such as hot sauce and hoison sauce for you as well."..its really good, i like PHO better than chinese noodles, thats me..usually here in California Vietnamese PHO restuarants are either near University, BIG Asian markets (99 Ranch), or in any asian communities...

hope this helps
