Default VQ35 in maximas with STS rear mounts?

This is a repost I am sure somewhere in here but I came up on a turbo max earlier this week in the PM or Late Night..hehehe..

I wonder if he had the STS because I didnt hear his turbo although he did not hide having one...AJCOOL said in another post that he was getting a VQ35 swap in his max....anyone heard of this before? Talking the older style maxes too not the ones that have VQs already..duh!?

No he probably had a custom rear mount. Over on maxima.org that is the new thing to do now when people want to put a turbo on their max. It costs less than 3k to do everything. Also people are swapping out the VQ30 with the VQ35 that is found in the I35 and other vehicles that are FWD. It's more common in the 1995-1999 Maxima's and Infiniti I30's. I was going to do this to my wife's car, but bought a Z instead. Guys are getting really good numbers from the rear mount setups. One of the pioneers in RMT for the maximas are Streetzlegend and 95blkmax. Streetz was able to over come the difficulties with RMT setups that spool later by wrapping all of the hot side in th FI application. His result was he could spool at the same RPM or sooner than a front mounted setup. It sent waves through the maxima community. So much so that everyone is doing it now. Here is a link to verify my resource. Thanks.

^ thanks man this is great news! I love to see pioneers that do things differently....Its like why get two turbo when one can do the same job..?

maybe I should get a roots style supercharger to mount on top of my block to compliment the centri style vortech....LOL!

If the blue max was a newer style max like 2002-2003 he was not turbo and he is fast. I'm hoping to buy my engine in a month or so. The swaps are pretty easy and cheap. I'm a maxima freak so if you want more info on the whole thing I'll be glad to share. The fastest 3.5 swapped maxima just hit 12.3@112 n/a and 11.8@114 with a 75 shot and heres the kicker he's on his stock automatic transmission! He's my maxima idol lol.

It's a 4th Gen I30. My wife wants to get rid of it soon so I'm not putting anymore money into it. Thanks for offering though.

Third gen? There are only a few known VQ swaps out there, but no one has put forth any information on them at all. Most I've seen is a single youtube video and a handful of pics...

In any case, I approve of this thread :wall:

No one's ever posted pics/vids of one so much as driving or anything...everyone's so secretive about them (like they died shortly after they got them running...or something similar).

It's like all the NYCMax guys that never share any information because they're all scared to show what they have.

Yeah I figured you were talking about him. Thats my boy Jason EVERYBODY thinks he's boosted or spraying but he's not lol. He actually came in second place in the all motor class at imports vs domestics last year. He's a sleeper and its fun watching the look on peoples faces when he beats them. You two would be a good race. We'll be at waugh chapel tonight if you want to come out.

Oh his car is a 5.5 gen. The 2000-2001 5th gen maxes came with a 3.0 engine and the 2002-2003 5.5 gen maxes had the 3.5's. They look almost the same but as you said the tail lights and headlights are different.
