O.K., I'm bored, so let's do some engineering calcs on this baby. How much horsepower is needed just to overcome the air drag at that speed? (I used the drag coef and frontal area of a BMW 500 series.)

It looks like we need about 650 ponies just to overcome the air resistance!

What I've calculated is only the HP necessary to overcome the air resistance - so, you'll need to add in rolling resistance, etc. We need some left over to accelerate the car at a decent rate or it'll take you a long time to get there. (Note the BMW gets there very quickly - if the clip is real time.)

For reference, a ZR1 has about 640 HP and is drag limited @ 205 MPH.

drag is a big issue... thats why my G will out run a GT500 Cobra at speeds over 110mph..out of the hole...it kills me. basically its all about physics over HP when you hit a u buck 130 and above... lol also torque goes out the window also...although every little bit helps.

I think Ableezie Z would hit 200 easy.... but he doesnt have the gears to do it I dont thing. He would need to change his out to 273 or smaller to utilize the HP he has... he peggs his car out in 6th around 180 if I am not mistaken thats a question for him... to answer...lol

great graph...

What happens when he takes off? I assume its in manual mode, why does he keep it pegged at the redline probably spinning tires for so long?

I hit 173mph (GPS verified) at 6000rpm's in 6th. I have gearing for over 200mph.

Id like to see more info on that M6

Seems like it got to top speed too quick. After reading Road & Tracks 0-200mph test, this seems a bit fishy.

That is pretty amazing really... I have pushed up to 183 or something and I tell you drag is the killer. If I had not accidently forgotten my rear wing was set down for maximum drag downforce I am pretty sure I could have come real close to 200, but I guess we shall never know.
