Hi people.

I am going to try to change the oil to the Z for the first time (I had free oil changes from the dealer up to now...)

Since I want to know the best oil and filter for a young 12k miles Z, could anybody give me a direct link to a good topic that covers this area?

I know that there are hundreds of topics about this, and I have found good ones like:

But isnt there any more simple answer?

Something like: This oil/filter because of this. Period.

I saw that they are giving away 5 quarts of Royal Purlple + a Royal Purple Filter away at pepBoys for $50 (I promise I wasnt shopping there ) And I wanted to know how good is it at that price since most people in these forums seem to think that brand as average...

This is what I mean when I say that it is difficult to find the answer.

There are hundreds of topics about oils, and 95% of them are flooded with this type of answers. Making the post useless again.

I thought that posting at MidA would give some different results.

Nevertheless, I will keep looking.

I am using Catrol GTX and a Pure One Filter. I followed the thread on oil testing for some time and if you change your oil as needed you do not need syn.. It adds no value other than cost. The Pure One Filter or the Napa Gold (wix) filter is also rated at the very top.

You def need to check out the VQDE oil analysis thread stared by resolute. Royal Purple doesn't get the best results, prob one of the worst oils for the Z according to oil analysis by fellow forum members. Best over the counter stuff seems to be the German Castrol 0w-30, M1 0w-40, and the Pensoil Platnum 5w-30. I have tried the first two oils and LOVE german castrol (not USDM castrol syntec). I burn less oil and I think the car is just smoother now.

As far as filters go, OEM or M1. However instead of the recomended M108 filter, you can run the larger M110 from the 4.0 VQ powered frontier. More filter media for the same price, a little taller, but fits fine.

and . I use the castrol german synth and the M1 filter, I think it is the extended life 110. I do the 110 because it is longer (more surface area to filter) vs the 109 that they tell you to get. But read the resolute thread will give you objective information and not just some people who feel it works best for them. Also, you may want to invest in an oil analysis for your car. You can post your results and resolute will usually inform you if they are good or you need to switch. gl

FYI: Mobil 1 isn't a *real* synthetic oil. It's basically "high-grade regular oil." Mobil simply put enough synthetics for it to be "classified" as a synthetic oil, but the quality is not to par with some of the finer oils like Motul. Notice the price diff between the 2 as well. As far as filters, Mobil filters aren't up to par w/ some of the better companies. They simply marketed their product better than the rest, kinda like Tein suspension on 350zs. Good, but not great.

Yes, the majority of M1 oils do fall into that catagory, such as the 5w-30 that many Z owners run, its actually pretty poor oil for our cars. However the M1 0w-40 european formula is a true synthetic oil. Its factory fill on most high end german cars from Porsche, Mercedes, and more. Someone posted up a candid picture of a mechanic pouring a bottle into an F1 car. Its a very stout oil.

I know all the cars religiously serviced at F:T get the motul treatment, have any of you guys considered doing an oil analysis to see if its all you say it is. There really isn't anyway to determin how an oil interacts with your engine without doing an oil analysis. I am sure you can find a few test results in there with members running motul.

Here's resolutes Oil Analysis thread -- def a good read if you haven't done so.

I remember when I was trying to pick a few oils to try. I printed out all the posted oil analysis submited by members, put them all side by side, looked at wear metals and other harmful elements left behind in the oil and made my decsion on what oils to try. I would advise the OP to do the same. PM resolute on the subject and ask him what he thinks your best bet would be for your driving habits, change intervals, and mods.
